You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

Stevie,very easy.Just talk to your dealer and he will tell you that he did not sell as many as he could have otherwise if BMW hasn't jumped on the bandwagon that a real sportbike has to be really useless for anything but riding on a track...
A GS makes slow riders fat and fast riders slow... :wink:
It's a nice bike but if you ride in the fast group at trakdays the thing is out of it's element.Too tall with too much movement due to the long suspension and not enough weihgt on the front...
It would be more fun to turn the R1200S into a bike as useful as the GS or better as the R1200R since it already is a decent track hack.
Nothing against the GS,though.The swiss army knife of motorcycles.Jack of all trades...
I had 4 GS's myself but after two R1100S bikes I know better and would not go back on a GS except for the dream trip from Alaska to Fireland planned in a few years...
By then the R1200S-T is out (hopefully) supplementing the R1200S-HP and than I fit wire wheels and knobbies to it... :wink: or ge a used 1200GS-HP2 with a big touratech tank and a pair of alu-panniers...Much better than the Adventure.200 lbs less to pick up... :wink:
Of course the new R1200S-HP looks pretty tasty too but another 50% premium over the R1200S,outch,and no makeup bags and no emergency pillion as a track hack only for the few with really deep pockets...

OK, I take it from that that the answer is either a) or b).

If one is to believe my dealer, and I concede that not many do, then he has shifted a good many R1200S. Probably more GS in reality, but I have to say that around my neck of the woods, I have seen more R12S recently than I have ever seen R11S. Not that I would take that as necessarily being representative. I just wondered if you really had access to some hard facts rather just plundering the bullshit store.

I think the Bullshit store must be nearly out by now.

Ive never heard about GS's making a fast rider slow and a slow rider fast, maybe the bullshit store was doing a 2 for one deal.

There are plenty of us on here who have bought an R1200S and I've yet to hear anyone have a bad word to say against them, BMW-Farter excepted :D

Let me explain what I meant the GS making an average rider fast and a fast rider slow(er)...
The GS steers very quick and with a torquey and powerful but not threatening engine power like open class RReplicas the bike is easy to ride fast and can surprise guys riding extreme italian or japanese hardware.But if you a very good rider you get a bike turned quick no matter what and then the GS is not as stable as the S and has too much movement due too long suspension travel and the front wheel has not enough weight due to the upright seating.At those speeds on the track in the A group the S rails while the GS feels like a fish-trawler in rough sea... :wink:
One more reason why it is a pity why the R1200S is not as useful and practical anymore because the R1100S is just as practical as a GS as long as you plan to stay on paved roads...

While there are a few of his posts that make me yawn............ I don't see anything wrong with the ones on this thread. :scratch:

I find that the GS does flatter my relative inexperience, whereas the R1100s needs more inherent "talent" :scratch:

While it is open to argument which BMW sport bike is the sport,sport,sportier (R1200s/R1100s) - they both clearly - handle better than a "bandwagon". :roll:

Twoddle! I did 40k on my R1100SS until I changed to an R1200S last year. Having ridden 15k I can tell you the 12 is more comfortable and has better tank range than the 11. It may be a smaller tank but is still good for over 200 miles touring and with the countdown you can drain every last drop. Forget panniers/tailpack, (aftermarket ones don't fit) I use a drysack bungied to the pillion seat. Totally waterproof and cost just £9.50 (its basically the same idea as the Kriega tailpack but £45 less!).

I totally agree with you Tim. I have got the BMW tailpack though which works well. By the way, where are you in West Sussex? I'm in Denmead, Hampshire. We'll have to arrange a southern get-together :)
