The future of the R1200S after autumn...

It is safe to say that in autumn the new R1200HP2-S will be introduced.A high price "boutique bike" but nevertheless the new boxer sportsportsportbike.
The R1200ST already almost retired what will happen to the slow selling R1200S?A lot of R1100S riders are still waiting for a replacement after 9 years since the S came out.What bike will fill/fit the sportouring void left open by the R1100S in the BMW stable?
I eally like the R1200S a lot but it needs to be made a little more practical/useful to be considered worthy replacing the old one by a lot of riders as slow sales indicate.It did not set the sport bike world on fire either or did you see a lot of Ducs and GSXRs in BM showrooms waiting for used buyers?Hardly!The new HP-S will play the role of the sportsportsport bike soon to appease the sheeple amongst us that follow the mantra of the motomags like biblethumpers that says a real spotsbike has to be really useless for anything but trackriding. I hope the R1200S will become more attractive for a wider audience of riders by becoming mo versatile/practical for duties off the track,too like the R1100S did/does!
One for sure can hope...
A 22-24 liter tank,K1200R-S seat,rack,centerstand and R1200ST adjustable bars,bags for sure can't be to hard to fit on the R1200S for the legendary german engineers...

Still havn't given up the hope!
What do you think?
A 08 R1200S with the mentioned options and Ohlins with hydraulic preoad adjuster instead of the cheap/frail plastic spannerring and the the linked brakes I would lust for and buy in a heartbeat...
The current one as nice as it is in it's summ of it's parts the old R1100S still has it beat except for the long straight on the next trackday of course...

Look! if your R1100S is so f***ing brilliant...why are you so keen to replace it! In fact, why not buy a few more, then you can go on enjoying them for years to come

If you could read you would be better off...
The R1100S better on the street the R1200S faster down the straights on the track.The R1200S could have been a brilliant bike if they had not tried to appease to the sheeple from the magazines which did not work out anyways as slow sales indicate.With the HP-S now surfacing there is hope that they turn the R1200S into the bike it should have been from day one which would be fucking brilliant...

For what its worth my 12S has 'bags' More tank range than any of my 1100s ever had and the seat/bars/pegs are just fine. Paddock stand takes care of maintainance so don't really understand your problem. You don't want a 1200S so take your pick from an R/RT or GS or travel to the dark side and buy a K!!!!

Perhaps I should add that I do have over 85000 1100S miles under my belt so do feel I can compare the bikes against each other!!

Ron you forgot the slow selling K1 and R1200ST on your list of beautiful collectible BMW motorcycles...

The K1 was the sportspotsportbike of it's days...
Anyways I think and hope that BMW is in the business of actually selling motorcycles and as the inventor of the sportstouring motorcycle since the production stop of the R1100S they have nothing to offer in their core segment of what makes a BMW a BMW.
And hopefully they do something about it!
And the HP-S looks pretty serious with 138hp and 400 lbs but also for serious money.Anyways that and the fact that the 1200 ST did not sell should bear some hope that the R1200S will gain some sporttouring options for people who would like to see a worthy successor trading in their 1100S for.
You are free to keep your R1200S a pure sportsportsport-bike...

I guess they have to create a new segment for the R1200S-HP superduperhyperextremesport...

A few lifestyle minded fat rich cats will dig it for sure who are already bored with their F41000 or 1098 tricolore...
HP=high performance or high price?!

Herman,I don't want a K,RT or GS.
I love my 1100S but would like a better one with more power less weight and a bigger tank,that's all...
I think you kidd yourself or ride extreely slow when you get more range out of the smaller R1200S tank compare to a twin spark 1100S.
And what is the disadvantage of a centerstand.What are maybe 2 pounds of weight as the only penalty compared to all the usefulness??Why should I have to buy a paddock stand and who carries the paddock stand while on the road??
A bike without a centerstand is useless in my book and anyone who is worried about 2 pounds of weight is prrobably better off loosing 10 times as much on himself...

I understand now---- You want to ride a bike that looks sporty BUT !!!!!!

For sure I know what mileage I got from a tank on the 1100s and I know what the 12 is doing. This might be because I have owned both and am not just talking out of my a--e. Sure the 12 isnt perfect but neither was the 11. Come back and spout when you have some personal history to back up your opinions.

BTW- Yes I'm a really slow rider, But if I'm slow on the 12 I was even slower on the 11 and yet I still travel further on a tankfull of fuel with the 12-- Explain that to me please BMW Farher (no bullsh-t please)

Considering the r1200s isnt a genuine sportsbike I better tell it, as it got passed ONCE at the TT during the two weeks and that was by a very quick lad on a gixxer.
Amazing for such a pants bike to hit just under 160 on the mountain, carry plently of luggage, have a decent fuel range and get a great deal of attention from sports sports sports bike riders.
Must be becuase it's so rubbish, the must have felt sorry for it

gus,all I can say is that the fatherland had no leadership since 1945...

And the R1200S would have been far more of a sales success if they had let the customer decide if they wanted practical stuff like bags,rack,centerstand and a seat worth offering a passenger without getting red...
But they decided to follow the mantra of the sheeple that said that sportbikes can't be practical not to be classed as "lowly sports-tourers".
I hope the sales "success" teaches them a lesson how stupid their decision was as the majority of R1100S riders still waiting for a worthy replacement...
Now Herman you tell me you get 200 miles on a tank from your 1200S and I say dream on.Een if it might get maybe 10% better mileage than a single spark R1100S (the twin sparks are just as efficient as the new S) any advantage is offset by the smaller tank...AS big as the tank looks it should hold at least another 5 liters,24 would be perfect.
Nu2beemers;it's easier not to have a centerstand???Of course especially checking for oil,servicing the bike,parking it where you don't have much room or changing a tire on the road where a dealer doesn't have a BM specific paddock stand.All this to save maybe 2 pounds,I'll understand...

At least I'm not alone,otherwise the new S would sell because despite the intended flaws to make it a "real" sportsportsportbike it is a nice bike and would make a truly outstanding sport bike that could also be used for duties off the track like the 1100S!
Anyways when the HP-S comes out the R1200S hopefully is turned into the true R1100S successor more appealing to a wider audience since the HP will be the true sportssportssortsbike then...
I'm man enough to ride a sport-tourer...

PS:herman last weekend on the track my fuel light came on at 91 miles...What a joke.I don't think a 25 hp stronger bike with an even smaller tank would have lasted any longer...

I must be dreaming then. I've done 197 miles on a tankfull on my R1200S and when I filled it up I could only get 15.2 litres in. Admittedly that was on a long run but still very impressive. I've got the on board computer and that is showing an average of 59mpg. I don't ride like a lunatic but I'm not that slow either. These new boxers are very fuel efficient so do not need a large tank.
