Ah anothe GS, is it a rare red one?

I tried increasing the preload on the front, but it just made it higher and slowed the steering. A stronger spring would seem be the answer, but I'm quite happy with it flapping a bit. I've wound the rear pre-load up a bit and increased the rebound by a click which made a big difference, although too much kills the comfort. I've since done 17k miles on it, and it's getting worn and a bit bouncy again, so I'll need another click soon!

The biggest difference is having no panniers/topbox, as the drag tends to make the front lighter. I also find that leaning over the tank at corners over 90 helps stop it wobbling so much.

I think the riding position and the wobbles make up a lot of the GS charm - the real solution would be to cut the screen in half and fit clip-ons, but then it would be a 12S.

Hope this helps.

I've bought some Dymags for the Gixxer!!!!

But I'm not spending much money on the GS, as I may be selling it soon.

I'm torn between selling it at 1 year old and 20k miles with a year's warranty, or hanging onto it for a couple more years. I'm just not sure of the market for a 3 year old 60-70k mile GS12.

I'm also not sure what to replace it with, it could just be another GS.

17 inch wheels would be good. I find the front end very soggy compared to what i remember. Tried upping front spring from setting one to 4 last night and it was way too firm.
Could do with a recommended seting for someone my size as a base setting.
The manual doesnt really help much

For you GS boys it's straight forward, just change to other BW wheels.

Go to www.k1200.de and look, plenty of Supermoto'd GS1200's.

As for selling!!, in 2001 cost me £2500 to change my 2 year old Tiger from an 885 to a 955,afterwards thought if i keep my Tiger 6 years i'll have £7500 to spend and still have the bike, and thats exactly what i've done.

Hmmm.... looks like a German architect & builder to me rather than a bike site...

Paul
You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

I don't ride jap bikes anymore but also no GS.To tall to ride fast...
Why put 17 wheels on a GS t make it sportier.Rather make the R12S more practical.Than you have a practical and sporty bike.I mean it is no secret the new S hasn't excactly sold like hotcakes setting the sportbike world on fire.As a sporttourer it would have but that is a dirty word at BM lately as badly as they try to get away from their image...But that doesn't seem to work either when it comes to sales since really only the GS and RT sell.A R1200S as practical and useful as the old R1100S would sell too because it would be the only sportbike that would be fun and useful on and off the track...
But they decided to get in line with all the other unpractical sportbikes and I guess a boxer engine, shaftdrive and ABS can't entice enough GSXR and 999 riders as R1100S riders are turned off by it's lack of touring and two up ability...
Anyways when the HP-S wil hit the shores they will sell even less despite the HP=high price... Like I said let's see what happens in autumn when they introduce the new sportboxer with nowhere to put any missus and panniers at the Paris show...It would only make sense if they turn the R1200S into a R1200S/T since the R1200ST will be probably gone by then as well...

A GS is too tall to ride fast?
Can you actually ride a bike or do you just sit in bed at night with your torch and your motorcycle magazines?

A GS with d decent pilot on board will stuff loads of bikes on any road other than the fastest sweeping A-roads. You need to get out more fella.

When you say that, are you a) speculating, b) repeating something you heard down the pub, c) repeating something you read in a magazine, or d) going by actual sales figures?

If it's c) or d) could you provide a reference or a link please.

I've been away from the site for many weeks now and find you are still being entertained by our good and generous friend BMW-Fahrer.
What a splendid chap he is to put himself up as an Aunt Sallie. Only thing is he writes like Worzel Gummage with the wrong 'ead on!!

Trust all are well and see that I missed a treat at Burton.
Sorry about that Reg - another time
