Well well well, .. I've just changed the gearbox oil to Mobil 1, and I now stink of the gloopy hypoid gunk that was in there before. Wow, .. what a difference,.. it changes gear more like my old flyingbricks now and a whole lot smoother.
My only critisism, .. £12 per Ltr, .... I've bought cheaper perfumes for all of my ex-wives.
Fully syn in the gearbox!!!!,you should have tried it 6 years ago when no bugger had done it,substituteing porridge for cats piss,it's what called a leap of faith!!!,but glad you got there in the end!!.
And no,the alternatives ain't as good, when i struggled to get Mobil when i needed to change the gearbox oil and couldn't find any, tried a cheaper alternative,it didn't work.
Bockingbandit, are you saying that you put engine oil in the gearbox? I do hope that you are joking. You might find a secondhand one on ebay.
I used 75?90 synthetic gearbox oil in mine and it has made a great difference, but I would never consider using engine oil in there.
While we are on the subject of Full Synthetic 75/90 gearbox lub oil. Over here in North Bristol the only place that I could find that has it on the shelf is the shop at Castle Combe Racetrack. It was around the £12/Ltr. Maybe be of use to someone.
Cheers
Ivor
They are in fact within good spitting distance of my Stockton office. Though they make no mention of a walk-in facility on their webbie, if there is enough call I could stop by, collect enough gallons for you tight-arissed Southerners and bring it down with me on 15th Jan when I am, once again, down for 2 nights. Pelican may call it a 'Group Buy'!
I can pick this stuff up over the counter and bring some down with me Monday next week. However, I'm booked on the train (trying to avoid potential nasty weather) so my lugging abilities are perhaps limited. Anyone else want some bringing down and we can meet up or nominate a 'local stockist' for you to collect from?
To be sure it's the right stuff, we are talking about Mobilube 1 SHC 75w/90, are we not?
