Twinmax balancing

Post by Jason M »

Simon has very kindly lent me his twinmax to set about destroying the setup on my bike.

I've plugged it in - that's simple enough, no difference registers until about 1 o'clock on the sensitivity dial. By the time it's at max then it's settled in the middle at tickover but the needle is right over to the left cylinder as I rev it up - I've tried dialing it out on the right but end up with the screw right in and it's still going left. Probably have to adjust the left too but that's the reference and I'v already adjusted it and put it back where I thought it was

In/Out left/right, what's the best procedure before I f*ck it up completely! Sorry Simon - I know you told me how to do it but I'm just after all advice too - just to see how to dial this out, and see what sort of reading other people achieve

thanks

OK - when I had a cup of tea and a think it's obvious innit - one throttle is opening ahead of the other, so I did the stuff to adjust both throttle cables tight till they just cause the revs to rise then balanced off the right throttle and hey presto - no more than 1.5 at max sensitivity revving the bike -it's not perfect, but it'll do for me, and it seems to run better on the short blast I gave it

There is a specific procedure to go through when balancing the TB's which starts at the twist grip. It's all in the manual.

What Manual

Post by a-jay26 »

I will be servicing my bike in a wee while and i am trying to find out how to set up the throttles and do this balancing act..... is it easy??

I have got a manual on CD rom that I got from Ebay and it looks the right one..... I know this seams obvious..... but what manuals do you guys use as the one i have just says to connect the BMW gadget and set the throttles..... No procedure on HOW to do it??

Could anyone be so kind as to give me an idiots guide to all this balancing act thing and what I should do. I'll have to get a carb balancer first so where do I get one... Motorworks??
I know all the other parts of the service no problem, it's just this part i'm not sure on.

Cheers

Andy,

Try the link below to get a twinmax. I organised a group buy earlier this year, so he might still do it.

Generally (with the engine off) you can "hear" the imbalance as the throttles hit their stops at slightly diff times (when closing the throttle) if you adj this statically there is very little balancing to do when running. I generally just slacken the cable that is opening early. a couple of tweeks with eng running and perfect each time.

I've just ordered a Twinmax as I'm sure that the bars vibrate more than when I bought the bike 7k miles ago.

Keep your eyes open for a thread entitled............. "HELP"

If I am ever on life support - Unplug me......
Then plug me back in..........

See if that works .....
