K1200R

Anybody got one? Ridden one?

I'm quite tempted by this bike but struggling to find much info on it.

The one guy I did meet who had one had to take it back for warranty repair 3 times in 6 months from brand new. Thats worrying.

Any advice welcome?

p.s how much should I get for mine on a part ex?

Ridden a few of them.

Cant believe how different they are to the K1200s. Oodles of power when you rev them and big smiles. I found the handling a bit harsh really and Ive ridden them with and without ESA. The K12s on the other hand I loved. Obviously they are very powerful but I actually bought the R1200s over one. The tempter with the K12R is they are a lot cheaper second hand, but again this says sommat doesnt it.
There's no doubting they are a capable bike however they seem to change hands pretty frequently.

Very comfortable,secure handling,strong brakes and powerful but for me at least compared to a boxer,soul-less...
Ride one before you buy!
You need to be a 4 cylinder guy to like this kind of bike.I'm obviously not...
But if I was I definately would go for a K1200S in black or maybe the K1200R-S because as a package they are complete and very competend like nothing else on the market right now...
As fast as the jap superbikes and as comfortable and practical as the big tourers like FJR and Pan.A good compromise between the two extremes...

I've enjoyed riding both the 12S and 12R on test rides but to own one? No thanks - been hearing far too many stories about them going bang.

I bought one and am very happy with it -- its a proper screamer and scares the living daylights out of me so a bit of discipline is needed. With a few minor mods -- MRA vario screen, grip pupies and a Staintune its all day comfortable, smooth, easy to ride quickly but also its easy to ride slowly, something I could never do on the R1100s. When touring at a steady 70/80 mph it will return 50/55mpg. It's the sort of bike that makes you leave work early just to get a ride in before tea. As for complaints -- well there's a rough spot about 6000 rpm but that seems to be getting better and the clutch is heavy when riding through town --- apart from that not much to complain about and I've done twice as many miles on it this year as last year on the r1100s. As for the problems you hear about thats the internet for you, nobody ever posts about how well their bike is running, they are too busy riding it, besides any bike you care to name has a few issues --go on any forum and you'll find the same. In the end its horses for courses, spend a couple of hours on one midweek and you'll know what to do.

I had one as a loan bike for a few days. I believe I mentioned in another thread that it was "the most fun I have ever had sitting down". It was very easy to ride, very easy to throw around (even for a numpty like me), and pretty damn quick too.

Funny one this,have gone along way down the road to buying a K1200s,their by no means pefect,fuelling is iffy,i see alsorts of stuff about new fuelling maps same as my Tiger,just moves the problem somewhere else!!.
Transmission from first to second is nothing short of tractor standard,e'r come to think of it!!,it's dire!!.
There have also been some major blips engine wise,it's always difficult to gauge how bad,cuz the internet can sometimes be a funny thing to judge and has already been said one no speaks about how good their bike is running.
If your into,'Buy it now and flog it in 12 months time' then i'd say your gonna get your fingers burned as the only wayout is to P/X at a BM dealer, have a look at how many are forsale(privately) and they want telephone numbers and non are selling.

To be honest all of the above is a minor detail to me,as the big plus is the aerodynamics two up,the but the price ain't!!!! and if i don't find some poor sole on his/hers financial uppers with a K forsale then i'll buy a new u'n.

Had a ride on one yesterday.

It was basic model but had lighter clutch mod, Remus pipe and I think Galfer levers.

I was really looking forward to getting on this machine and I think that made me even more dissapointed when I didn't like it.

It's certainly capable. Its quick, but doesn't feel R1 quick. I didn't like the front suspension. Although I didnt have any problems I could see the wishbone taking all the impact and I couldn't feel a thing. I'm not sure if the front did slide you would know about until it was too late.

I found the bars too high and too wide, I couldn't settle into a spory postion as the seat has you right forward.

It did handle well and tipped in quickly and easily (metz sportec) and had plently of power to come out. The engine was very smooth, too smooth for me. As said above, 'no soul'

Maybe its just me, maybe I've been converted without realising it...maybe I should go look at a R1200S????

When i rode a k1200s,i remember jumping on my 1100s after and expecting it to feel crap,it didn't, just different.

They're an acquired taste.

But about them being "slow"??? nah, they're just smooth - even with the power kick at 10K revs they're deceptive...... I took my wifes for a new tyre recently... lets just say that the only reason I didn't set a personal top speed record was traffic!! (highest ever was an indicated 167 a few years ago on a GSXR1000, the K-R was only a few numbers off and felt like it had a LOT more still to come!! )
