Power socket

Looking at the power socket it seems smaller than standard.
Nippy Normans do a converter to change it to standard size.
Are the converters well made? anyone got one?
What is the OE socket actually used for being the smaller size? BM equipment??

I ordered one of those converters from NN ages ago and it looks reasonable but I've never used it. Instead I mounted a proper-sized socket on the top yolk to plug the GPS/phone charger into. The original socket's in the wrong place to be useful when riding anyway IMO.
You're right - the OE socket is only any good for BM equipment.

Thanks,
What BM equipment is available then? The only thing that springs to mind is a Sat Nav and I would imagine that would be hard wired in, not powered through an accessory socket

There's BMW's own take on an Optimate - that has a small plug. Maybe heated clothing? I'm not sure.

Having just bought one I can tell you that the BMW special size plug for the socket is £7.36 (why I am not surprised).
I use it to help trickle charge the battery as having checked with the mechanics at the local dealer they confirm that you can use a trickle charger through the socket provided the battery is not totally flat.
Tried it and it does work.

Thank you so much for reminding me that I should have looked elsewhere before paying BMW spares prices.

I got my pug from Motorworks... great. However, does any one know where I might get a BMW plug but one that comes out and then does a 90 degree turn. I have placed a plug socket on the left hand black plastic (behind the winker) and the handle bar grip just touches the plug. this is not good. `can anyone help me??
cheers Stuart

kettle? I was rather hoping that someone might make a very small 12v espresso machine, helps keep the weight down as you wouldn't need as much water!
