I ordered one of those converters from NN ages ago and it looks reasonable but I've never used it. Instead I mounted a proper-sized socket on the top yolk to plug the GPS/phone charger into. The original socket's in the wrong place to be useful when riding anyway IMO.
You're right - the OE socket is only any good for BM equipment.
What BM equipment is available then? The only thing that springs to mind is a Sat Nav and I would imagine that would be hard wired in, not powered through an accessory socket
Having just bought one I can tell you that the BMW special size plug for the socket is £7.36 (why I am not surprised).
I use it to help trickle charge the battery as having checked with the mechanics at the local dealer they confirm that you can use a trickle charger through the socket provided the battery is not totally flat.
Tried it and it does work.

So when is this 'Old enough to know better' supposed to kick in?
I got my pug from Motorworks... great. However, does any one know where I might get a BMW plug but one that comes out and then does a 90 degree turn. I have placed a plug socket on the left hand black plastic (behind the winker) and the handle bar grip just touches the plug. this is not good. `can anyone help me??
cheers Stuart
