I've just called my usual tyre supplier (Universal Tyres - mobile service running out of Borehamwood) to find they've closed that branch without even telling me, probably their best customer
I've got less distance left in my rear tyre than I expect to cover in the next week so am a bit stuck, to say the least.
Does anyone know of a tyre dealer that'll supply and fit bike tyres to loose wheels in the South Herts area? I'm in Welwyn, so kind of Luton, Stevenage, Potters Bar, Hemel area.
If I have to travel further then I've no option, I guess. That'll teach me for trying to get the last few miles out of the tyre........
Sproggy, its a way further but it is quick if you're desperate.
Guilford tyre have a specialist bike drive-in service just south of guildford on the A248.

It's a relief to see so many using Universal Tyres. I've been going to the one in Croydon since I discovered them and can't complain about the speed or the price. Even if they do have to chock up the back with bits of wood...

Too many miles on too many motorways make for a somewhat square profile. And as someone else said somewhere in another tyre thread, because the Pirelli Diablo Strada has no tread across the centre line of the tyre it wears off-centre and you don't notice how thin it's getting until it's nearly too late. If there's no tread groove to check how are you supposed to tell (other than the fact it's been handling like a bas*ard for the last few weeks)?

After seeing the monkeys that most tyre places employ I don't trust any of them to remove or fit wheels - they've probably never heard of a torque wrench and don't even bother to get the pressures right. Taking loose wheels in the car saves money, saves possible damage to the bike or myself, and also means I can carry out certain cleaning operations while the wheels are off that I wouldn't be able to do if they wheels were removed by the tyre place and then re-fitted straight away.

Tekmotive just quoted me £180 for a pair of Pilot Roads, fitted to loose wheels, balanced, including VAT. FWR want £175 for a pair delivered but (obviously) not fitted or balanced. Unless you can get a pair of tyres fitted and balanced for a fiver I reckon Tekmotive are more competitive than FWR!
Great - Tekmotive are a family operation running from a scruffy shed. The lads are both club racers (used to be R1s) and they are really friendly and their service and turnaround was excellent.
Changed to FWR as there wasn't much in it financially but they are a lot closer to me otherwise would still use Tekmotive.
