Clutch replacement

Hello, on the way home last week the bike made a pretty awful noise, which reduced when I pulled the clutch lever, but it still had drive. We came home on a truck. When it is in gear now the rear wheel can still be turned by hand, so I assume the clutch has failed. I want to replace that myself, which may again be due to input shaft failure, so a reconditioned gearbox may also be required - I assume this failure is actually due to input shaft failure. I have read the relevant section of the Haynes manual but am quite frankly confused as to the best method to undertake this without help. I have a bike ramp with a front wheel clamp and could secure the rear frame if I flip it up. I will be very grateful for guidance as to the best approach and any tips you have. I assume it will be obvious if the gear-box has caused this.

I've been lucky so far and haven't had to remove the gearbox on my S. There are plenty of threads on here if you search clutch or gearbox removal but photo bucket has ruined most of them . All of them use different methods.
The thread below has a verbal account of removal and also a link to pelican forum with photos . You need to support the bike under the engine and work from there.

I have started dissasembly of my 1100S and will be progressing some more this weekend.
I have the haynes manual and that has some good guidance but also says that you need to remove the cylinders - for engine assy removal - I dont understand why.

Hi, I did the clutch on the 1150 GS a few years back out of Haines and it went ok. No need to take the engine out but a trolley jack to support the gear box & final drive is a must. Usual caveats - take your time, methodical, lots of photos and you'll be fine although it will look ghastly!
