Point is if we can do those questions really easy - we were educated properly and you are probably 40 / 50+ in age and either went to college or uni or did a proper apprenticeship of some sort.

The 'flaw of averages'

The Pisa data shows the average score in each region and we are clearly as a nation performing badly. However it does not tell the whole story and it would need a better brain than mine to analyse it properly and come up with a proper solution.

Every child I know, including my own would cruise through that test and would be near the top of the rankings. I suspect most teenagers you all know would also perform well, so why are we so poor on this survey?

I suspect our average is being brought down by a relatively small number of failing regions. When dealing with averages, you have to be careful what you read into things.

For example, if 3 people take a test, and 1 person is struggling and gets zero, but the other 2 get 100%, the average is 67%. Not bad, and you could say that no action is required, but that would be to miss the needs of the person failing.

Whilst taking the test I kept double checking my answers as I was concerned I'd missed something and that it was some sort of trick :) Sadly, they were indeed as simple as they appeared, and I missed two years of secondary education due to being chucked in the naughty boys home :)

Sadly no, I was chucked into care at 12 years of age for bunking off school (due to bullying) and dropped straight into this charming hell hole until I was 16

Nope it's not/wasn't but my entire slant on it now is what happened was not my fault or within my control so my "therapy" is not keeping it hidden and being open about it, that way (in my mind) "they've" not won, if that makes sense. :)

No doubt explains why I'm a bit puddled :D

PS it also explains why I hate bullies so much and why I got all protective when the admin on the "other" forum attempted to bully me into silence :)

Holy cow Steve, that's horrible....

Glad you have/are working through it and getting on with life well, and still sticking it to the BMW club bullies! ;)

Bullies are the worst.. If only the narrow minded tw@ts knew what their idea of 'having a laugh' does to victims lives in the long run... Especially to young people who are developing their personalities for the rest of their lives!
