Starting to get used to it, maybe?

Postby AJB » Tue May 27, 2008 6:04 pm

Lo and behold, my thumb has managed to find the cancellation switch all by itself!

Did another 100 or so miles today on this new to me bike. Just cruising around, quite a bit at low speed. This included a ride down from the top of box hill with some very strange adverse camber stretches. After about 70 miles I was still finding the handling on country lane corners rather disconcerting and not confidence inspiring. I had pretty much decided that we were nearing the end of our short relationship.

Stopped for a cup of tea at the Box Hill cafe, then resumed riding and all of a sudden the bike felt better, as if we had begun to click. I was more willing to push it and more trusting that it would actually stay leant if I leant it around a corner.

I think a lot of my trepidation with this bike is caused by the front suspension, where it is taking me quite a while to get used to the almost complete absence of dive when pushing into a corner or under braking. I think it will take me a while to get used to this.

One upside of this set up though is comfort. Very close to where I live is a cut through ride that I often cycle along on my keep fit route. Until going down it on the SS I had never realised that there are more pot holes than flat bits. Not a brilliant choice of route. But the bike soaked up the lumps and bumps incredibly well.

If you are finding the front end a bit vague try a bit more preload in the rear shock. You will get a bit more feedback from the front and it will turn slightly quicker. Good luck.
