R1100S exhaust

Post by strattonmac »

Hi Trixters!
I have recently purchased an 1100S which is fitted with a retro fit unmarked exhaust can.
Looks like a nightmare to remove and replace with the original for the forthcomming MOT
Any tips on exhaust can removal for this model?
How do you get to the bolts on the top of the can?
Do you have to strip the whole rear end?
Any experiences to look for?

Mightly oblidged

There are no bolts on the end cans... normally.

Normally you will release the can to up pipe clamp.... the end cans then slide rearward off 2 spigots facing the rear. The corresponding "holes" in the end cans have rubber bungs in them.... which may make an easy release tricky. But be patient and wiggle it.

Hope this helps

Might be worth sounding out the mot test station before you get all hot and bothered removing it. I believe it's soley down to the testers discretion/hearing as to whether the cans are excessively loud or not...

I found a smear of Vaseline/grease around the pipe joints made it easier to fit pipes together.
No longer a motorcycle owner.
