Hi,

I've just blown my savings (literally) on a blue, 2005 r1100S.

I am a 27yr old girl from, er, Sussex. I'm a trainee maths teacher and climber. I've only been riding 5 years, but have got through 4 bikes: Honda Varadero 125 -> r850 GS -> f650 ST (a baaaaad move) -> r1100S.

I love the new bike so far: it's light enough for me to actually shift about and park on a hill. I had a great ride round the bluebell covered roads near Haywards Heath the other night, beating my friend, who has a GPZ 500. Have to say the S is so much more fun to ride than the f650, which had...oddly distributed weight and felt shaky on corners.

The only 'issue' I've had so far is that I managed to run out of fuel because I thought the green light meant the tank was full, not on reserve. That'll teach me to read the manual *before* going for a ride.

Anyway I hope to go touring at some point, preferably with climbing kit on the back.

Some good roads round your neck of the woods but have not used my usual route of Boxhill to Bognor Regis as much as I used to as lots more solid white lines and 40/50mph speed limits.
My nan lives down there, well when I say 'lives' she is buried there - I visit the grave every now and then. In fact, may go down there this Wednesday if still warm/dry.

Nice place to meet is the tea shop in Amberley. Much more civilised having tea and scone than a burger and coke up the road at the country park.

blimey, i know that i came from a fireblade that weighed a couple of ounces but still i think it's a bit of a lump. you are a climber though so that's probably why you don't have a problem. have fun.

^^ Compared to the r850 GS (which is the same as the 1100 GS) it feels like riding a bicycle.

However the claimed weights are no different... 234kg for the GS and 229 kg for the S.

I guess I am used to riding big traillies with the weight high up.

I've not been there, will check it out. TBH I've always just used bikes for transport, rather than leisure/fun. However the S is such good fun to ride I've managed to put 200 miles on it in the first week of ownership...what with this fantastic weather it's just so tempting to take the long way round to go anywhere.
