TYRE WEAR!!

Post by PBBoxer »

Well I had a set of Mich Pilot powers. 3k miles.first pair, happy with that
Set of mich pilot power 2ct .3200 miles. Yep no probs, they grip really well and i love em in wet and dry

3rd set, guess what, mich pilot power 2ct again.

Ive done approx 1200 miles and i dont honestly think ive got 600 mile left on em!

Gonna have to reconsider what to get next time i think, cant afford a set every couple of months. Must be getting used to the bike eh? haha

Gijis, Thanks for the constructive comments, as ever. Having not seen me ride, Im amazed at your incredible powers of observation regarding how smooth I am.
I bow to you superior powers.

You are very welcome. But with 1800 miles or 2800km you are either riding like a complete moron or your style can be smoother. It is not like a R12S is such a powerhouse. I am no slouch myself as there aren't a lot of people I can't keep behind me in the mountains and I can easily do twice as long with the same tires. So keep on bowing, maybe one day you will learn something.

Quick bonus tip: if you don't want comments, don't post on a forum.

Considering Paul got 3200mls from his last set, do you think its that likely that he has changed his riding style so radically as to only get 1800mls from the most recent set? I wouldn't have thought so.

Still there's nothing like a strong, sweeping cross-channel (or Atlantic) assumption to win friends and influence fellow trixters is there now!? Just ask Chris.

Sounds like time to try the Road 2s eh Paul? I know that's what go on my 1200s next time round. Don't get me wrong, I have Powers on now and love 'em but from everyone says about the Road 2s I'm going to go for it.

How does riding smoothly save tyre wear? Unless by smooth you mean "don't accelerate hard". I probably add the most wear to my tyre on a straight bit of road where I come out of a slow roundabout in 2nd then habitually give it the berries to the red line. Believe me even on something as "not exactly a powerhouse" as an R1200S there is a distinct feeling of acceleration.

PB Boxer - I run Conti Road Attack's on my 11s and get over 7K to a back. The're worth a try and will definitely get you more mileage than the tyres you are currently using.

I got 3.5K (twisties & warm weather) and 4.5K (commuting and cold) from rear Power 2s.

Maybe it's just a sub-optimal tyre???

Or the salt rotted it :?

I think you are all missing the point. Paul is not complaining, he his proud of wearing tyres out so quickly.

There's a difference betwen comments and slating someone without even knowing them or how they ride!!
Ive had two sets which have each covered over 3k miles yet this one is really low at 1200 miles. It's not been pushed hard because those miles have been covered between december and now so Gijis, your comments are misplaced and ill informed.
Say what you will mate but dont expect a meek and mild response when you're being a dick!

My point is that I think there's something wrong with this particular tyre.

Tell you what, why dont you bow instead and I'll kick you up the arse?

I would have thought 2 possibilities, dodgy tyres, or summit up with the suspension, but then Im sure you would notice that.
The only reason I mention the suspension is that I recently had tyres fitted to my car, the first replacement set, I got nearly 20k which I thought was pretty good, the tyre fitter said, I bet you only get half that out of the next set as the suspension will already have "gone off".
Dont know if the same can be possible with bikes or not, just a thought.

cheers.
the tyre isnt torn at all and its wearing smoothly out to the edge. suspension feels bang on to be honest.

i honestly think it could be a duff tyre. same pressures etc as others

PB, maybe it's the extra weight that it is now carrying? You know we all start to spread with the advancing years?

Seriously Mate, Box thinks you are a real gent for the loan of the Garmin, see you in Glossop, as arranged.
