Fuel computer / consumption / tank range (R1200ST)

Post by dave2wheels »

the fuel warning light popped on last night saying 40 miles range left so I thought it was time to test the fuel computer!
(and we all know there's a few litres left in afterwards)

just started journey home and my local petrol station is 35 miles away. took easy for the first 10 miles and I arrived at the pettol station with "15 miles" remaining.

Filled up 16.05 litres (superunleaded), mileage was 200.7
so that's 12.5 miles per litre coverts(@4.54?) to 56.7 mpg. Nice!
I'll try for range of 250 miles next...if you see a red/silver ST parked along the A3 can someone give me a lift, ta

I guess i'm doing exactly the same as you at the moment Dave. Swapped the 1100s for an ST at the back end of last year and virtually put it straight in the garage for the winter. Started using it again over the last few weeks and now finding all the good bits.

I filled up last night as well, immediatly the light came on, 170miles on the trip, 46 range, 13.5 litres = about 57 to the gallon :D :D

Cant believe how much some things have improved - or was my old S a bit of a bad one?

The engines so much smoother. I have bounced it off the rev limiter a couple of times - not thrashing it just didnt realise the revs had gone that high. No chance of that on the old S, it let you know via the vibration well in advance.

When did BM start making gearboxes as light and smooth as Suzukis? Flippin brilliant. No more scaring pedestrians with the clunks and clonks whilst downchanging towards traffic lights.

I actually even prefer the handling on the ST. It might be a bit under damped 2 up, but solo its fine. More neutral in turns - feels much less loaded on the front to me. Possibly the Pilot roads? Makes me wish I'd tried them on the S rather than sticking with 020's.

In short - lovin it!

Dennis.

Mmm... the jury is still out on my fuel consumption as I thought I had a 250mile range as well... but I filled up in Boulogne, rode around a bit to find a place to stay overnight and caught ferry. B roads all the way home and a 44 mile return trip to work and back and I had 225miles on the clock. I squeezed in 21ltrs by dribbling the last 2 ltrs or so in (I must do that drilling the neck mod to aid quick fill)

Most of the time over in France I was filling up every other time the R1 and Suzi thou was. They were running 120ish miles per tank but I do know we had a few short runs due to cold and the smokers in the group

Now I may have been "making progress" but I don't really think I was getting a wiggle on really just usual riding. This means the ST is doing less MPG than my VFR750 used to as I could easily see 240 from a tank of 21 Ltrs without trying really. Mind you I do like the overtakes on the ST 8)

The ST is in for a 6k service tomorrow, I'll see what the MPG is like after that but I wouldn't have thought it'll make much difference, perhaps I should just ease off the go grip a bit more
