simple enough question

i have bt 021s fitted, the rear was fitted about a month before the front, before i got the bike!

anyhow, the front has worn out (ie nearly flush with the markers) sooner than the rear.

is this normal?

Wouldn't have thought so. I normally get 2 rears to one front.

But then again I don't do stoppies

I would agree with skiddy, useually 1 front to 2 rears on my bikes.

Im not sure not having had my S for more than 3 days but the 021's were showing accelerated wear when fitted to the ST1100 and I think Bridgestone went as far as saying use a 020 on the front with an 021 rear..

I have NEVER worn 2 rears to a front. They always wear equal with me. It is very much a riding style thing.

when I used to use bridgestone the rear would always wear first but it was only ever another 1000 or 2000 before replacing the front - had various can't remember all the details but tried bt010, bt020 and 010/020
but with the 020 pair the front would go knobbly/unevenly so tended to change them together.

I used avons (azaro Av45.Av6 i think) and they wore evenly front to back and nearly 10,000 miles! Nice tyres too!

then Michelins Pilot road nice feel and good mileage but overall I felt no better the Avons which did nmore miles and were much cheaper.

now fitted Avon storm rear and Viper front and they've only done 4000 but looks like the rear willl outlast the front-as expected with sports front and tour rear! think I'lll just go for Avon storms front & rear next.

Maybe your tyre pressures aren't right head banger,36f and 42rear is wot most of us run at?

I am pretty anal about tire pressures. 32/36 solo, 36/42 loaded as per BMW recommendations.

My Michelin Pilot Road 2 last about 9000km/5500mls, M3's about 5000km/3000mls.

I have never gotten more than 10k km out of any tire, even going back as far as the good ole TK44 on my little 1977 CB400F.

I do very little commuting on the bike, and most of my miles are abroad in the mountains, which does load the front more.

Used Bridgestones continuously up until last tyre change when I opted to trial the Pilot Roads after everyone here raved about them. When on Bridgestones I used to run an 021 rear & 014 front, they used to wear pretty even. Dependant on the wear rate that I get out of the Pilot Roads I may switch back to Bridgestones, the subtleties of the two manufacturers are lost on me, the Bridgestones are probably more prone to sliding (I think), but very predictably so, I did some track days with them and they inspire confidence. I've not pushed the Michelins to the same limits because I've only used them through the winter.

Don't forget that tyre choice is a totally personal thing, find some that you're happy with & stick with them.

Depends on how and where you ride.Spend all day riding shell gripped corners fast and the tyres will get a hard time.I used do afront and rear at about the same rate.Anywhere between 2000 and 2500 miles on bt01.s and bt014,s.

As tyre pressure seems o.k. and no-one else has said their front Bridgestone died early, all that remains is ride style. My mate gets all emotional when he gets his Triumph out once a week, a sod to try and keep up with, also complains about the front tyre wear. I suspect he will also have to get a set of front pads soon too.

many moons ago i got 800 out of a hi-sport front before it was a slick
