Bikesafe London Course...

Postby Bender » Mon Mar 24, 2008 3:46 pm

One of the surprising things that happenned at the Ace this morning (apart from the blizzard) was that the guy behind the counter gave me a voucher for a free Bike Safe London course.

Anyone been on one? is it worth doing?

Did the London south one based at The Warren in West Wickham. Thouroughly enjoyable day. You go out on two rides during the day - just aim to ride like you normally would and don't try and pretend to be something you are not.
I am thinking of doing one again but with Kent Police. 'Tis cheaper with the Met/City Police as it is subsidised by TFL i.e. us!

If you've got a freebie go for it. I did one with Warwickshire bill last year and it was well worth while. We did about 300 miles over two days, cross country and urban; challenging but enjoyable. An excellent refresher if you haven't done any post-test training recently.

My test was in 1976!

I spent 4 years as an RAC/ACU instructor and did my IAM bike test in 82.

Sounds like I'm just about ripe for some more training...

Plod will make it clear that they are not there to train you but to asses your riding skills.
If you are already IAM, RoSPA etc then look at it as a refresher day. If you have not done any advanced training before then you will find it really good and will probably want to take it further.

plus there are numerous private people/companies doing it.

Have done the bikesafe day from the Ace, good day, nothing heavy! - this week end it's the national bikesafe event @ Hendon (north london) see the bike safe web site for full details, but seeing whats on it's got to be worth a visit  http://www.bikesafe-london.co.uk/
