Spanish BMW Values!!!

Post by snavetrauts »

I have just been to a Gestor (cross between a solicitor and administrator) here in Spain to get an idea of how much it would be to import my S.

Value of bike 9500 Euro
Discounted for age (2003) Value. 3700 Euro

12% (of 3700 euro) importation tax 444 Euro
One time trafico tax 71 Euro
Town hall tax (road tax per annum) 91 Euro
Plates 15 Euro
ITV every 2 years 98 Euro Plus one time engineer report (to confirm its original conformity) 100Euro

F**ck me I thought we were in the common market. The Spanish have already had their hands slapped for charging duty (protectionism).... but they simply reduced the taxation rate and ignored the Brussels crowd.

The actual cost of running a bike over here is lower than the UK.... but to buy second hand is very expensive.... so I was very surprised at the value they placed on my bike.... although apparently the price they use for this tax purpose, bears no resemblance to the price you pay on the second hand market...... confused or what??

When I imported ours to France it went like this:
Certificate of conformity from BMW (UK) - free
Forms from French tax office - nothing to pay
Register at Prefecture - 135 euros each bike
Plates 12 euros
No road tax in France
No MOTs for bikes in France
Insurance dropped from £300 in UK to 115 euros in France.
Can't moan.

Gijs...... Sorry if i confused you.... I had previously posted a thread on the second hand values of bikes in Spain (astronomic) but could not find it. Someone else on the site had also asked me questions re.. importing to Spain.

Madman...... Find me a house near the Perigaux and i an on my way!!!... I am sure that charging an EU member for importation goes against the remit of the E. Community.... ??

Oh well the weather is better here.

Hi Stuart,
I have just finished importing my 2005 R1100S from Berlin, here in Moraira, Alicante. (Fantastic bike, chuffed to bits with it..!  ) and it cost me a total of 1,275.56 Euros  plus the itv. (Spanish mot).
Not including my Gestor, Who just happens to be my sister. :P
The bike cost me 9.000 Euro with only 7000Km on the clock.
I have just seen the exact same model close by in Denia, Year 2003 with 10,000 Km on the clock for a price of 10,000 Euro.
It took about 3 weeks for all the paperwork to come through but well worth the wait.
Un saludo

These are the tough facts and figures for OE as factory produced bikes. How are 'modified' bikes rated? Is a stainless screw set a modification, or do you have to have more? What a headache.

Karlos,

Good luck with the new bike ..... enjoy the roads and weather over here   Mine , if I do it will be about 1100 Euros inc. ITV and Gestor fees. But my bike is older than yours.

Oyster,

I do not think any mods count over here.... they take the basic figure from the retail value of the bike when produced (2003 in my case) and then discount it according to age. You cannot appeal that particular part of the valuation either.... their price goes..

Cheers

Hi Stuart,

I am lucky in that I can reclaim the import taxes, the bike was owned by a company in Germany not a private person. 8)
Just a question but why bother importing your bike at all? I have several mates living over here full time and they have been riding on English plates for years..!
If you happen to be up in this part of the woods sometime towards the end of April then come up to Teulada as I am just in the middle of opening up a Motorbike clothing and accessories shop. I will let you know when we open nearer the time.

Hi Karlos..... thanks for the offer and good luck with the shop.

The reason for importing the bike is twofold really....

1) Insurance... I believe UK insurance only covers you for up to 90 days (presumably whilst you are on holiday) and only then at the minimum european requirement for that country (3rd party only)

2) Resale..... I eventually will trade in my bikes for a sit up and beg Beemer.... the back and the wrists are starting to suffer even now.

If you know of any routes around this (1) the I would be happy to hear of them.....

I believe I can reduce it by the import duty only by getting a Baja de Consular from Alicante and then doing it all pretty quickly thereafter. The Baja now costs 150 Euros approx.. last year it was 40€. I think they have cottoned on??

Let me know if you know of any shortcuts

That will be fantastic... cheers.

Looked at the site....looks great..... my nearest stockest of anything near enough good is in Murcia .... Belmoto (BMW and Suzuki) quite pricey.

Good luck with it..... will certainly pop in when up your way... and thanks for the feedback when you get it.

Just a thought... do the guys have to go back to the UK each year to get a MOT???

Cheers

Hi Stuart,

Sorry it´s taken so long to get back to you but as you can imagine I have been up to my ears in work trying to get my shop up and running, It´s nearly there now, hopefully end of the month we can open.

My mate Rob has a GS1150 on English plates and he insures it with a company called Liberty Seguros, who have an office up here in Denia, Have a look on the internet maybe there is an office close to you. Apparently it is a Canadian company that insures everything anywhere.
He takes his bike to be itv`d every 2 years here in Spain. The only draw back there being is that the itv is only valid for Spain, that means if you wanted to go to France on holiday for example your itv would no longer be valid.
The other grey zone is the road tax, you can´t pay road tax in the UK without an English MOT, and at the same time you can´t pay road tax in Spain on English plates..!!
He reckons on the various times he has been stopped by the Guardia Civil, they only ever asked to see his license, insurance and itv.
The insurance are apparently happy as long as you have a valid MOT or itv.

Hope this is of some help to you.

Un saludo
