Fat bloke is impressed.

Post by box-doctor »

Well campers, I've just fitted a K&N air filter & a de-cat pipe to my R1100S & took the wife for a blast on it........ Wow  I first of all absolutely love the noise the exhaust makes, it now sounds like it means business, & it goes a lot better too - particularly between 3000rpm & 4500rpm - it just legs it into the distance. :P What I want now me thinks is a chip..... can anybody tell me what's available from experience, & what gains I'm likely to expect please ?

I've got a BMW 530 diesel with a tun-it tuning box on & that has just transformed the car, it goes like it's arse is on fire & we like that at our house..... :D. Does a chip do this to the bike?

Regards Neil.

Unfortunately not B-D, although it will help with the fuelling. Best option though would be to go for a Power Commander PCIII and get it set up on a dyno by *someone who knows what he's doing

*I say that because it takes a lot of skill and know-how to get it 'just right'. Not all dyno centres are created equal it would seem. Still it's worth it in the long run as any further mods can be compensated for by uploading a new 'tune' the PC.

Talking of Diesels we're (well...I ;) ) thinking of having our 120d Sport done. Heard some Good Things about the results folk have achieved.

And it most certainly needs an InDuct (seem to be as rare as Hens Teeth these days) and then a San Jose Powerfilter. Those two along with the PCIII will make it as good as it gets.

It certainley will, over the years added this and that thought blimey thats better and two weeks later just got used to it,out yesterday pasteing the S,PC has been on what 12 months, still thinking kin'ell this goes well.

There's been something odd that i just couldn't put my finger, suddenly realised with the PC,when you change gear the revs don't drop off, well they do but not like an normal S does when you change, hence when you hook up the next gear it picks up so well.

Most fuel injection systems revert to idle fuelling (i.e very little fuel being injected) regardless of engine revs when the throttle is fully closed such as during gearchanges or when slowing down - this saves fuel, helps the cat last a long time etc but wreaks havoc with the throttle response - typified by snatchiness when opening the throttle from fully-closed as the fuelling tries to catch up. A PC allows the idle fuelling to be made richer - improving/smoothing throttle response off a closed throttle but also as you point out because it chucks in more fuel on a closed throttle, when changing gear the revs die off less rapidly as the engine isn't being starved of fuel so much. More like a bike with carbs. The only downside (other than fuel consumption and environmental issues  ) is a slight reduction in engine braking, but big twins aren't short of that anyway.

I set my Aprilia up with a rich idle and it transformed it.

Well thanks guys for that, but I could do with someone to do everything for me - I'm not stupid or anything, but I can do the spanners far easier than the computer stuff - each man to his/her own stuff. So if anyone can give me a price to just supply, fit & map etc... I would be hugley grateful.
There is going to be a delay over the next week or so with my replies, my p.c. has died & so I'm having to use my daughters' laptop - when she's not on it.....
Regards Neil.
