Datatool System 3 Problem

Post by colin luhrs »

Hi Folks
Anyone experienced a problem with this type of alarm? Basically it will only operate occasionaly using the transmitter. No apparant pattern to it and Ive tried all the things in the manual (new batteries, standing closer, praying etc)
It will operate fine using the PIN code but the 30 seconds of siren operation is a bit of a bind.
Any ideas gratefully received
Colin

I had the same back last year. It got worse till it would not turn off at all. I ended up removing it from the loam and going without for a bit, then found a new one on ebay with plug and a play loam for £40 fitted it and it has been fine . This was on my cbr but the alarms the same. Looks to me like the owner before me had used a jet wash and pushed water in as i had a bit come out when i removed it(ban jet washer they do more harm than good and just use brushes a bucket sponge and a hose).

Mine has so far been relatively ok

the transmitter is very sensitive to external interference - eg. if you are right next to a phone mast and you need to put your body between it and the bike to get it to work (SL BMW being one such place) - make sure its not external before you pull it to bits.

Thanks for that- are you saying that if unplugged from the loom the bike worked OK ?
If so thats my favourite option

Unfortunately, it shouldn't if it is hooked up correctly. The ignition inhibitor needs to be actively disabled, else a thief could simply pull the alarm out to get the bike to work

Thanks guys for your input. Ive had a very long chat with Datatool and a shorter one with Bennetts and the upshot is it will cost around £150 to fix it and it isnt reducing my insurance anyway. Think Ill strip it out and start again.
Cheers

I've had both the Datatool and the Spyball system and the latter is miles better IMHO.
I think the Meta systems are pretty good too.
The datatool system is very delicate and the key fobs are crap.
In general I think the best bit of any alarm is the immobiliser; anything that slows down someone being able to hot wire the bike is a good thing.
The motion sensors are a bit hit and miss!

Too right, wheel the bike down the road, not a peep. Return home late at night and give the bike the gentlest nudge (its near the front door) and then scrabble for the keys in the dark whilst being cursed by the neighbours as the alarm wakes the entire street.....

Funny, I have opposite experiences. Find Spyball shite, as two of them failed on me due to the housing not being waterproof and love my Datatool S4, which is waterproof and comes with a seperate metal casing so sturdy you could attack it with a hammer and the bike would be destroyed before the alarm.

Vibration sensor doesn't do much though, due to the location of where I put it (behind the Motronic). Motronic brackets is suspended by rubber, so not much vibration comes through. The tilt sensor works like a charm though. Any axial movement of more than 2 degrees and it starts screaming.
