Mamola reps normally came with a certificate. Mine did anyway.
The carbon covers are secured by two bolts, which are no on teh same centres as the rocker cover bolts. the covers screw into the rocker cover itself, into the actual cover

If your not sure it's a genuine Mammola BCR, take it out a test ride and drop it. Contact your local dealer for a quote on the engine covers, belly pan and rear bodywork and if it comes to more £2000 then its genuine BCR
But seriously, if it comes with the correct carbon covers and carbon.kevlar belly pan, complete with all the original bodywork and belly pan stickers then chances are it is a genuine bike. I know there are a few copies out there but the cost of fully speccing up a standard bike would be so prohibitive as to not make it a viable proposition.

with the BCR you are buying a paint job IMHO, underneath they are all pretty similar and as I have found on this site it doesn't take long to start tinkering
my W reg standard S, I bought it with 16 on the clock and after a couple of good thrashes it has loosend the engine up noticeably. The real joy of a stock bike is that they are cheap to buy and through this site you acquire a wealth of information and goodies that transform it. An sj powerfilter, lennies induct, fruity exhaust and new suspension tailored to my weight and riding style have given me a bike that I believe will perform better than any "standard" BCR. I am not a fast rider but on my last track day at Silverstone i took a few jap and italian bikes by surprise through the corners, it was only in a straight line that they got me back!
There is of course more that could be done a PCIII does appeal but I have yet to convince myself that it is a worthwhile investment.
As to colours there isn't much in the way of tupperware and so why not design your own scheme?

I bougth my BCR back in 2004 after the Mandarin and Graphite S had been sold just before I got to Vines for a test ride.
I had previously taken an S out and the BCR is definitely different to ride,for a start the seat hieght is good 10/15mm higher than the S and taller than the GS as the GS suspension is a lot softer so settles to a lower ride height this gives me at 6'1 views never achieved on anyother bike.
If you can get one with the Laser cans and chip,I have the reciept from the previous owner who had them fitted £999.00 but they transform the noise they make whether they give more oommph is bye the bye and they get rid of the tumour underneath.
the only complaints I can say are the screen is not much cop whether you go for the standard or the slightly higher one for someone my height as it causes considerable wind noise,and the other is high frequency vibration that numbs your fingers on the motorway.
also the transfers on the belly pan are held on with spit so dont ever go near it with even a hint of jet washer.
Ive been upto Scotland and down to the westcountry the bikes returned 53 mpg two up with gear on a consant throttle at motorway speeds and has never gone below 43mpg it loves to be thrashed as well as cruising and admireing the scenery.
it is heavy fully loaded but can be hustled once set up,pillions have no effect on the speed or handling.
all said an done a competent all rounder that will bring a smile to your face.

The talk of all of the model 'Differences', .. or lack there of, .. always amazes me. Considering it's really a 'One Model Range' that hasn't really changed since it's launch (By comparison to japanese superbikes etc), .. I can only imagine what this discussion would read like on a 'Blade' or 'R1' WebSite.
For me, .. I've sort of got an 1100S(small s). Its swapped between yellow and blue shocks, 5 and 5.5 rears, standard and vanderline pipes, ... and you know what,.. after 5 miles you forget if there was any difference in the first place, ... compared to a jap thou, .. you still feel that you need to send it a memo to get it to turn in on trackdays. But that actually adds to the fun,.. especially if you can pass them and keep them well behind you.
The 1100S in all its guises is simply what it is, .... a great all round bike with no more or less flaws than any other bike, .... but in my humble opinion,.. the best looking bike (in any guise) that BMW have made.
I reckon the major factor will be, .. what makes you feel good, .. and its mostly visual differences. (Except for 'Cat, Pipes.Chip.Snorkel). Hell, .. mines in dulled DDP, ... but what do I care
