R1200S suggestions welcome

Post by izustu »

Hi guys,

I've ordered a R1200S to replace my aging 1100S. :D

I've included Ohlins, and Heated Grips. I've ordered a hugger which I consider essential. Naturally I've gone for Black

What other bit's and bob's would you suggest?

I would like some form of head protectors, on the basis that if you have um, you'll hopefully never need um. BMW want the usual silly money for the chocolate ones  , any suggestions?

Also the soft luggage options. Are the BMW tail and tank bags any cop?

I like to do most of the basic servicing, but don't like the look of the BMW stand. I would prefer something that lifts from the middle, a little like the stand I already have for my 1100S. Any recomendations?

Anyway, any suggestions welcome. Oh and watch this space for a very cheap 1100S with Ohlins etc.

I bought a Harris stand made of Stainless steel it is easy to use but it is a bit wobbly. I am not sure the ABS option is worth while. I have all the options as I bought a demonstrator from BMW, its even got the tinted screen and seat cover. I've also changed the handle bars.

Its a std colour but as its a BMW it costs £310 extra. The wide rim is £90.

Ive got the large BMW tail pack / bag
Used it the other week on pretty poor wether and it's a good bit of kit.
I'm going for the usual exhaust change, have the ohlins, abs, grips and wide rim.
Must admit that bar riser kit looks of too, might try and find a bike with one fitted and havea sit on it

It makes the bike feel different and more manouverable.
The std screen is useless because the wind comes over the tank and land in your lap making my legs very cold. A flip up screen is not available until early next year.

6ft exactly with a 32" inside leg, but I do find after my R1 that it is a bit tall and I am going to shorten the Olins shock. I think I can reduce the seat height about 1". Its only an issue in traffic when putting my feet down quickly.

The screen problem is the same with the Std bars. I coul'd understand at first why I was getting so cold, then I realised that the wind hits very low in the chest and is forced down onto my lap, I even get squashed bugs on the front of the seat.

Was going to mention those.

Stantons aren't doing guards for the 1200 head yet.

How about body work protection like Rhino or tankslappers ------ I only had my K bike 3 days and I picked up 2 bloody great stone chips which need filling, ----- makes you want to cry !!!! Full kit is about £90 from Rhino.

Bikemad99, nice to see you posting, where have you been ? I hope you and Gwen are ok.
