Anyone got Bar Risers fitted to their S ???

Post by MadDogMcQ »

Spent all day trying to get a sensible answer from various dealers and accessory resellers - but failed!!!

I have a 2004 R1100S with heated grips. I desperately want to fit some bar risers and have found that a German company called Gilles makes some called VarioBars.

What I cannot find out is whether the one with the highest adjustment need the cables/hoses changed and I also need to know of I will be able to retain the heated grips.

Has anyone here raised their S bars?? If so, what did you buy and where from?

Thanks in anticipation.

Tom

Genuine BMW high bars are best but you will need longer hoses

There is a simple way of using the original bars putting them above the yoke and sliding the fork tubes through.
Doesn't cost 0.01p.
Rode me S like this in excess of 100K miles.
Bailey.
Honda VFR750 FV 1997 Red and dirty, 130K miles.

Honda VFR800 Xf Crossrunner 2016 White and dirty, 120K miles.

Mmmm, 2 interesting replies. The idea of moving them above the yoke had never even occurred to me!

And my local BMW dealer told me today that BMW don't do risers of any description. Presumably, they would have automatically guide me to higher-bars if available. No? :?

Wunderlich do a bar convertion, new top yoke and handle bar. you would need longer cables. you would then achieve a more sat up position like the 1150R. The main benifit would be the extra leverage you have on the bars. It seems as though you can throw the bike into corners with more confidence.

Upright gives me a bad back so bars now as standard. I did try the bars above the yoke, this gives less pressure on the wrist and enables easy counter steering. Try it and see what you think. ABS bikes no problem but I am led to believe that a new front brake hose is required. you have to re route some cabling to the other side of the forks.

A guy in the states on the Pelican site has a product called barbacks. The guy is called Rapid dog I think.. On his website there is a fixing instruction that you could apply to just moving the bars above the yoke.

Or a company called Suburban Machinary. Search for them, they have a kit that works with the bar above the Yoke just the trial you need. go onto the pelican site and search for Suburban machinary/barbacks.

Good luck
Train don't go down there no more

I've got an S with the BMW high bar KIT fitted. It comes with a higher screen. It came out of the shop like it, as an option.
Anyone fitted K1200RS/GT comfort bars :confused4:

This contradicts everything that the dealer (Williams BMW) told me. :? In fact, they even told me that Wunderlich don't do anything so that contradicts what Nick says too.

Thats why these forums are so damned valuable :)

Anyway Mal, you got any photos that I can use to embarass them with?

Regards,
Tom.

I've traced it at last.

BMW KIT http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=32&fg=05

FOR VEHICLES WITH
HANDLEBAR HIGH
ONLY FOR REPAIR AT THE DEALER'S (Kit reference) X611A
01......LEFT HANDLE-BAR 1......................part #..32712331471
01......RIGHT HANDLE-BAR 1..........................#..32712331472
LARGE WINDSCREEN.....................................#..46632328359
ACCELERATOR CABLE L=600..........................#..32737659680

FILLISTER-HEAD SCREW M8X35 2off.................# 07119901970

The top yolk has a locating slot on the top to match a "key" on the bars. I don't know if it's the same as the standard one.

Put URL in favourites. all cars and bikes covered.

Gee Wornt Nutt'n :o Another url. http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/fiche.asp

For a rough idea of prices. Divide $ by 1.527. that will give you $ to £ + VAT. Taking 1.8 as the exchange rate.

>>> gerryatric genius<<<  Not really.
I've just bought some K 1200/GT comfort bars to try and fit. They may go with the top yolk I bought. It turned out to be bent a couple of mm at one end. I'm hoping my nephew can put it right as he's an engineer.
If I fail they will be for sale. I won't get time this year as I've too many irons in the fire. On the other hand someone may buy it. I've had a few enquiries but I recon I must want too much for it.

As mentioned earlier, you can raise them above the yoke for nothing. Wudo make a kit that will pin them into the raised position though it's not really essential. Wudo stuff can be tracked down using the search function, this includes part numbers.

I met a guy (Terry) at Rivington Barn today with a bike identical to mine. By strange coincidence, he had a riser-kit available and is dropping it off on Wednesday. He has the Wunderlich conversion fitted and I must admit it looked like a nice bit of kit and a REAL transformation to the height of the bars.
