R1200S Tyres

Post by Lambo »

Getting ready to replace my Pilot Powers after 4,700 miles. Not bad for a sporty tyre but wondered how others rate the alternatives. I've seen the majority wearing Metzler M1's; are they any good or has anyone tried anything else?

The M3 from metzeler are great and last longer than the M1's. see recommended section for a report from Me and Grommit

What Nick said - I went from M1's to M3's. I definitely wouldn't have gone back. Never a huge fan of the M1's. The 3's are more stable, less fidgety, wear better and (allegedly) have more grip.

Admittedly on an 1100S, but for the most part I'd reckon what makes a good tyre on one bike will do so on another.

After 400 miles my rear M1 looks like it will struggle to do another 400. Even with "enthusiastic" riding that can't be right surely

M1s are a pile of pants! I got 1800 miles max out of a rear - even in winter. Powers do me 3k-3.5k for a rear. I've just fitted Road2s and they feel just as good as the Powers but are meant to do double the mileage - definately worth a try. You get a £20 fuel voucher with a pair at the minute too - so thats a bonus!

The front is still perfect so I don't want to change the pair.
What about M1 front and M3 rear?

I have a M3 front and M1 rear fitted at the moment, but this is only for the short term as I had a part worn M1 already and my M3 was worn.

There again these are fitted to a K1200S.

Going to replace the pair in 2 weeks with Pirelli Corsa lll's.
