Bling!!

Postby Me-109 » Mon Oct 16, 2006 10:53 am

Well, with the nights drawing in and me tending to do reasonable bit of night riding I've taken the plunge and splashed out (not literally :sign12: ) on a two-light HID kit.

Cue: "Lordy, I have seen the light!" puns.

Shame I'm away for the week and won't get to fit them until the w/end.

Any helpful hints and tips that don't regurgitate what's available through the 'search' (yes, I've used it!)?

With ABS, I take it the best place is to fashion some bracketry around the fuseboxes? Has anyone lashed the ballasts to the two metal tubes you can see when you look under the front of the fairing in front of the tank - think its the fairing frame, but not sure tbh.

Mine is lashed on top of the right hand connector box - 1 sticky pad and 1 cable tie - job done

Mine is cable tied to the fuse box. There's not much spare room under the fairing and the leads from the ballast box to bulb were quite short limiting possible mounting locations. I have pictures of mine somewhere that I'll post up.

I've also just fitted a H1 (dip only) and strapped the ballast box to the r/h fuse box. It's been said already but you won't believe the difference  . like riding in daylight.

It's usually cheaper to get a 2 lamp kit, than it is to get a single bulb.

There is a company here that sells Xenon kits for motorcycles (1 lamp). Cost: 250 euro

Normal 2 lamp kit, different store (Philips ignitors), cost 150 euro.

Heck, I can buy the 2 lamp kit, sell 1 for half the price and everybody is happy running cheap HID. :)

I get that impression, but then it's always a handy spare!

Well, once I decide to run HID I will. But I don't ride much after dark, so I am not in a hurry just yet. Other parts have higher priority, like Staintunes. But if anyone can make me a nice offer on those, I may have enough money to look into HID too. :)

yes, sorry chaps ............. I thought I may not get a smart-assed response. :)
If there is a slightly more supportive pointer in the direction of the HID source website or address - I'll crack on.

I've plumped for a set from http://www.hids4u.co.uk as I've come across their name on this board and others.

A search on fleaBay shows you can get them significantly cheaper, though you may or may not have to factor in import costs and none seem to be registered shops so you have nothing in the way of support or comeback. Thought I'd rather pay the extra.

I ordered over the phone to make sure I got the right pair of lamps. In pretty short order I received e-mail confirmation of the order, billing and the receipt and not much after that notice that they had been shipped. They should be at home today - though I'm now in Leatherhead once more. So I hope to try and fit them up at the weekend, along with the screen I got the other week from Paul (PBB).
