Cat eliminator and K&N air filter fitting

Post by Delpel »

Just got the bike back from it's annual service - whats that all about then!!

Anyway decided I'd polished my cat eliminator for long enough and now was as good a time as any to fit it.

JESUS - nobody warned me it was some major plastic surgery going down here. Am I going in the right direction, fairing off, seat and side panels off, tank off, back wheel off, number plate carrier off and then some rubber hammering to get the cat off. Thats before I even look at the air filter.

Please please tell me I haven't pulled it to bits for nothing.

You only need to lift the back of the tank to get at the air filter... does that help?? ;)

Yep sussed that one Gary, but I had to lift the front end as well to unplug the O2 Sensor and free up some slack in the cable to fit it to my replacement Y-Piece.

Now ya see Derek...if you'd got the Zachs Cat elinminator you wouldn't have had to pull any slack cable thro' - the lambda sensor is (I believe) in the same place as the original.

As far as the rest goes, then yes a fair few bits have to come off to get at it. don't forget if you have a centre stand you'll need the little widget which stops it hitting the new pipe

I would love to fit the induct, chip quick disconnects etc etc. If I spent any more on this bike I think I would be single and paying the CSA.

I have managed to disconnect the silencers from the link pipe. What a TWAT that was. The bike has only done 3000miles so I half expected it to just fall off. Oh no :x :x Lots of hammering with my trusty rubber mallet. I picked up a tip leave the bolts from the cat to the downpipes in place. When I reassemble should I coat the pipes with copper grease for if and when I need to pull it all apart again. I will be doing all the other nuts and bolts of course.

Can't do any more until Saturday as work is interfering with my fun and games.

Derek it never does any harm to use copious amounts of copper grease...I love the stuff, why I even put it on my bacon sarnies!

Well thats that. All fitted and back together. Went for a blat around camp and my god what a difference. As expected she revs quicker and goes a little better. But the sound, bloody marvelous
Dare I say it but from 2000rpm and pulling away she sounds like a Du*&ti. Or as my mate said "Del you've got yourself a Buctai there mate"

I ended up routing the Lamba sensor up over the frame cross member, zip tie to the clutch cable and under the airbox. I shall keep an eye out for any fraying and maybe put some heat shielding/tape as recommended by Capt Stempy.

So needless to say I'm chuffed to buggery and when the bank manager allows then it's chip etc.

Cheers for all your advice
