New disturbing development courtsey of our governemnt being in cahoots with the insurance industry - A mate of my brother got 3 points and £60 fine, and then found his insurance premium had gone up by £160 - Apparently Bunglin' Blair has asked insurers to punish speeders with heavier premiums.
What's so stupidly annoying is speed (being over the speed limit) is less related to injury and death than 'excessive' speed which is often below the limit for that road (eg 10mph in the snow) (Somerset Constabulary have proved this) - And bikers (on the whole) have a healthy respect for their health so stay (broadly) within their limits. I think if the govt would stop wasting money on bus lanes and make bike lanes (with sticky tarmac obviously) they could keep cars away from us and everyone could just leave us in peace to go what speed we like.
As an aside, I would suggest people try ebike insurance.
Ive been quoted 350 fully comp for the bcr and the edwards mille r, with all extras included and only 4 yrs ncb and a total write-off in 2004.

Not so much surprised as frustrated that our innocent pleasures are being penalised more and more. When they ban fun altogether what will we do for kicks??

Hi Dave
Much as Tony seems to be the current whipping boy you can't actually blame him for this, this has been the case for as along as I can remember in respect of points effecting your premium.
If you actually read the small print you'll see that you're meant to contact the Insurers regarding any changes of your licence be it from speeding, dodgy tyre endorsments etc etc, even medication, as soon as it happens. The reason for that is that they may consider this to have changed your risk, it's not new, they're just actually doing it these days s it's easy money !!
yeah, but I thought that 1 or 2 speeding offences (SP2 's?) were okay? Or at worst very little increase. When did they start bumping up your premiums for these?
I suspect that it's due to the claim culture that we unfortunately seem to be developing in the UK which is massively increasing costs to the industry.
Whereas before it was fix the bike, end of story, now it's fix the bike, provide a relacement at 50 to 150 quid a day whilst repairs are done, provide compensation, and any other misc costs that can be thrown in are !
I'm not against payments where they're due, but soooooo many people seem to be swinging the lead these days.
Not sure if that is entirely true? When my bike was nicked I had to deal with;
1. Original insurance company
2. Claims assesors
2. Claims handling company
3. Loss adjusters
All these comapnies have to turn a profit and make their 10%. On top of this the underwritters have to claim back their global losses on us. So ever time a supertanker goes down or a hurricane batters the Gulf coast our premiums go up.
