Nigel - my first S pinked until I changed the plugs. It was fitted with BKR7EKC (I think) NGK's which depending on where you come from, are the wrong plugs for the S. Or certainly on a '99 bike.

Changing them for Bosch FR6DP's cured the pinking in one swoop. These are platinums which if bought from somewhere like Cafco won't cost much.

S'funny you should mention that. The service kit that Motorworks sent me had NGK 7's in the pack and I thought nothing of it as the plugs that came out (fitted by the dealer) were the same.

Decided to investigate getting some Bosch plugs and found that the handbook states 6's.... hmmm, apart from the high end buzzy vibration the bike is running pretty sweet with no pinking.

Will post my findings after fitting the correct plugs.

Adam :)
Forgive me father for I have sinned... ex S owner moved onto pastures new with four cylinders and a chain... and back to a twin, albeit in a V.

I think motorworks supplied BKR7EKC when I bought the first service kit , since then i've purchased locally FR6LDC and when I recently checked with the local distributor their current listing suggests FR6KDEO.
iF I cross reference them to other makes they all come out the same heat range and look visually the same. I'll try FR6DP'S (currently have fr6kdeo) and let you know . Thanks again

It's a debate that has gone on for years with holiday makers (in cars at any rate ) reckoning their vehicles ran better in the uk. I haven't heard any debate recently(most of the holiday makers have second houses in europe and probably own lear jets (the celtic tiger))! but listening to cars pulling away from a juction in a housing estate recently I reckon 50% of them were pinking badly.
I've tried as many different brands as possible plus I buy in Northern irl
when up that way (despite being considerably dearer) . Seems just as variable as down south. My bike is definitely better minus the cat , hopefully some fine tuning will sort it.
