As many here will know I've owned a BoxerCup since 2008 and have covered 24000 happy miles on it.
I regularly change the oil and filter, and during a recent gearbox oil change I changed to Mobil 1 SHC fully synthetic and combined with a 20g tube of LiquidMoly has resulted in a superslick gear change.
However, I've overlooked the air filter, in part because it's such a faff to get to and the previous owner had advised me he'd fitted a K&N. I'd previously already bought a K&N cleaning kit in anticipation of doing the job but always found a reason to prevaricate

Last weekend I finally cleaned it ... and in my 50 years of motorcycling I've never seen such a sorry sight.
Now all cleaned and reoiled the bike has returned to giving me 60 mpg (it had dropped to 50mpg) and is pulling much better. I guess it's a credit to K&N that their filters still function under such duress!
So public apology to my BCR
