'03 11S: Evo ABS, Integral ABS, ABS1, ABS2 ... Arrrgggh!

Hi Everyone.

What began as a simple front pad change has turned into a major theatrical drama production. Well - sort of.

I recently purchased a set of pads - ostensibly for an R11S with ABS.

Remove existing (worn) pads - OA thickness 8.4mm, only to find the OA thickness of the new pads is 8mm. (From Sixity.com Pad 294). Hmmmm.

As I dug around, it seems almost impossible to find pads listed specifically for the 2003 R1100S with ABS.

There are pads for non-ABS models of all years.
Pads for up to 2002 ABS models.
Pads for RT and GS models.

and for 2000-2006 R11S with EVO, at $132 per pair. Jeez - I only want some pads, not the effing factory.
but is EVO the same as ABS?

Have now spent much time going around in circles, so is anyone able to enlighten me on the differences between: Evo ABS, Integral ABS, ABS1, ABS2, and the the matching pad types?

Has anyone found suitable pads cheaper than $260 / full front set. That's about 145 Quid.

I haven’t got a scooby sorry. My bike is sans abs.
If your local shop can’t help then maybe try an email to Motorworks?
Actually, see if your bike has pads listed on their site?
Surely if the shape is the same then a new pad being 0.4 mm less isn’t important?
It’s a bit like your favourite choc bar getting smaller for the same price. So I end up buying 2! Nom nom ...

John, I understand your frustration, so many different terms for the braking system
I think the 2002/3 bikes had Brembo calipers that were branded Bmw on the front of the calliper, but branded Brembo on the backside,my 02 R11S was non ABS. Others were branded tokico etc, I guess the answer is the manufacture date of your bike rather than the registration date. Also does your bike have servo assisted brakes? or do the brakes work just as well with the ignition turned off?

Mystery solved !!!

Build date for my bike is April '03.
Is when Tokico calipers were fitted.
Pad Dimensions are 81.5mm x 45mm x 9mm.
OEM manufacturer pn: Toyo C93F HH.

Earlier Brembo pads are 78mm x 52mm x 8.5mm.

Quite an obvious difference in physical appearance.
