NEEDED! R1200S

Postby starboard_pete » Thu Jan 28, 2016 10:22 am

Hi Guys,

I'm on the search for a R1200S with the sports pack (Ohlins front and rear with wider rear wheel)

Colour isn't too much of an issue but ideally it would be the red/silver combination.

My budget is around £6K so im hoping for a realitvely low mileage example with some idea of its service history.

I have a 2003 R1100S loaded with goodies which I'll be shifting once the right bike has been found!

Yep, I'm afraid so. But shy bairns get nowt.

Also wouldn't you get more money from selling individually?
I'm in the process of selling my speed triple and i reckon I'll get £2K for the shiny bits if i sell them separately, or about £500 on the bike.

There's one in red and silver with ohlins on Gumtree, but it's in Northern Ireland. Doesn't say if it has wide rear wheel though.

I think - that the ohlins and 6" rear - go together in a Sports package?

That's what I thought - just looked at the 1200s promotional brochure and it has them as 2 separate items. All the 12s I've seen for sale, however, if they were advertised as "sport pack" they had both Ohlins and the wider rear wheel

They were available seperately or as part of the 'sport pack'. Dave's right - 99% would have had the sports pack as it worked out a bit cheaper. However my first R1200S had only the Ohlins! I never had any complaints with the 180 wheel; it was arguably better than the 190 in some respects.

Thanks guys,

I've seen the advert on gumtree. I thought it was quite expensive for quite a tired looking bike!

I'm off to see a 'standard' R1200S in Birkenhead this Saturday. It's got 14k on the clock and a 180 rear wheel. I've had a quote from MCT suspension for a pair of adjustable Wilbers shocks front and rear... All works out inbudget!

Has anyone used the Wilbers units?

I have wilbers on a Boxercup - really good suspension, and more sensible money than Ohlins.

They will be built to suit your weight (or at least they are if ordered through Revs Racing - have you asked them for a quote?)

There is a train of thought (I can't tell) that the front shock upgrade makes very little if any - difference.

You could save a lot of money by just getting the rear shock renewed?

(it was Chris Canning {Winger} who thought that - and if memory serves - he returned to the BMW/Showa unit at the front.
