Our small Bike Club did a four day trip to france last weekend. Leaving Retendon in Essex at 07.00. We used the Tunnel (09.20 Crossing)and then took the D940 coast road to Wissant - we then turned inland across to Aire-sue-La-Lys for Lunch at the "Bailliage Restuarnt" in the town square. We then carried on in a south easterly direction to Thiepval and the WW1 monument. Follwed by a quick visit to the "Lochnegar crater" arriving out our Hotel at 17.10 French time (20 minutes ahead of the schedule that I had estimated). We stayed at the Hotel Royal Picardie in Albert (just on the edge of town - book direct for a group and they may offer a discount - we saved 10 Eu per night per room by booking direct) http://www.royalpicardie.com/en/. We booked dinner on the Friday night (good food) at the hotel and paid for drinks from a kitty - the rooms came to 321 Euros for three nights including breakfasts. Good off road parking good food and friendly English speaking staff. Two days ride outs were arranged of about 150 miles each day. On the Sunday we visited the Armistice Glade memorial at Compiegne. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glade_of_the_Armistice . The ride back to Calais was, by neccessity, done partly on a peage route as we were booked on the 15.20 train and had also booked lunch at he Golden Lion in Hardighen http://mw2.google.com/mw-panoramio/phot ... 197857.jpg Excellent home cooking but you will need a french speaker and book ahead Phone 03-21-82-09-96. (the hotel arranged the booking for us - we visited this place last year by happy accident)
We arrived at 11.15 and had lunch booked for 12.00 - the two course Lunch arrived at 12.30 and we were on our way by 13.45. Coffees and lunches and drinks for 11 people was only Euro 207 and it's only about 35 minutes then to get to the tunnel. Arrived home at around 16.45 UK time - plent o ftime to pack stuff away and clean the bike before dinner time.

Dengie 100 MCC trip to France -Sept 2015
There would appear to be a surfeit of prolixity and sesquipedalian content today please do not use a big word when a singularly un-loquacious and diminutive linguistic expression will satisfactorily accomplish the contemporary necessity
