[Slight OT] Help with an HP2 Sport: Fiberglass fairings.

Post by er-minio »

It is still an "S" after all :D

Maybe someone in here can help me.
I'm looking to buy a set of fiberglass fairings for my HP2S, for trackdays.

I've had a look around, read some posts and got some info from gus, so at the moment I'm looking at the two options:

Race fairings:
http://www.motorrad-saering.de/shop/ind ... cts_id=962

Race or street fairings:
http://catalystracingcomposites.com/i-8 ... coque.html

Has anyone ever bought/used/seen the saering fairings and do you know if it is easy to adapt them to fit headlights/rear lights. I think cutting them is the easiest bit. What I am worried is mounting points.

I normally ride to Brands Hatch for track days, and it will be less of an hassle to keep the bike road legal.

cheers

Gus is the man to ask or you can try Chris Canning on Pelican. Failing that ask Sandbar. Pelican would be my first stop if there is no joy here.

Cheers Josef.

I'm trying not to register on Pelicanparts' forum. :D
Failing that ask Sandbar
Chatted with him via email, since I bought the paddock stand recently.
I assumed they didn't sell fiberglass fairings, just the carbon ones.

I think they're too busy trying to mount panniers on the HP2 on Pelican Parts. Hopefully flame resistant panniers

Yup........I'm the one that started that "special" thread!

It was a cold rainy day when I went down to the shop to just look at my HP2 and being the industrious fellow I am, I decided to see what the HP2 would look like in touring trim.

But the main reason I started the thread was.........well..........just check the posted date!

Back to the thread here........I will probably go for the Catalyst kit as they are built much closer being on this side of the pond.

I believe com5984 on Pelican/BMW sport racers also purchased the Catalyst kit, maybe check with him to see how the parts are??

I decided to see what the HP2 would look like in touring trim.
Don't, please! Just don't! :D
Question I wanted to ask on that thread: did it damage the exhaust "skating" bolts on the rear fairings? They do slide back and forth a bit, according to the exhaust temperature...

Also, I'm envious that you can use the HP2 for touring... I'm in central London and the HP usage is minimal. Trackdays and the occasional jaunt around southern England on boring roads :(
Everyday bike is the GS.

Makes sense.
I don't mind ordering from the USA. But there is a sensible price difference. Almost twice the price.

Oh! Thanks a lot for the offer, but there's no need to bother both of you too much!
I've seen the road catalyst kit on the old hp2.info site. Looks good.

My curiosity is more about the Saering fairings, and if those can be adapted to be used with headlights and the rest.

Sorry, you still have not clued in.......that touring post was done on April 1st last year.....it was an April fools joke, so I have no idea how that system would actually work....the bags were just hung on with rods and bungies........just wanted to see how many suckers would bite!

Is the Saering kit 1/2 the cost of the Catalyst??
I would have to look into shipping costs also to see how they finally compare.

Cheers

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Legend!
Ok. I got it now!
Btw, I was referring to another one though.
just wanted to see how many suckers would bite!
I did!
Is the Saering kit 1/2 the cost of the Catalyst??
Last time I checked it was cheaper.
I think 5/600 GBP with shipping.
Catalyst will be over 1k.

I'll check into the Saering kit.
If you purchase the kit, please do an update on what you think of it.

I'm also glad you took the "sucker" comment in good spirit as I did not want to single you out, but, well........

Hi
The saering kit is ok . Needs a fair bit of sanding and you also need to drill holes. The rear section has alluminium strips bonded in to support the exhaust can. Depends if you want to have a nice paint job on how much time and effort you will need to put in.For track use it's fine and at the right price. The carbon panels they produce look great. I imagine they take a little more care when laying them up and spend a little bit more time trimming them. All at a cost though.
