What's this end can I got with my R1100S - how do I fit it?!

Got a technical query? Found another 0.02bhp? Ask/tell the world.

What's this end can I got with my R1100S - how do I fit it?!

Post by RavensAteMyEyes »

Hi all,

So the R1100S i bought came with a box of extras, including this racy looking end can.

I think it's a Laser system, but can't confirm.

I just took the OEM one off to see how this one might fit and, while it is for the right bike, the connector to the outflow from the catalytic converter is about 3" too long for it to be a straight slip-on.

(Links as they're big photos)

I just spoke to the dealership I bought it from and they haven't got any other bits for it, so either there never was one, or the old owner (who had the bike from new) lost it.

So, what on earth is this, do I want to fit it and what will it cost me?!

Ay thank yew![/img]

In the second pic it looks like there's a very intimidating looking bloke's fizog embedded in the chrome. Did the cans come with that as standard or is it a custom add on you've done yourself?

As to fitting, I guess you need the downpipe to match the cans. Can you shorten the existing pipe as an alternative? But bear in mind it may not perform as well as the original and you'll have burnt your bridges....

Good luck finding a solution.

top one looks like a Vanderlinde race exhaust - is it stamped not for road use? if it is a Vanderlinde it should have a connecting pipe which takes the cat out and there should be a chip with it. Check out boxerbanter from mid October for a thread starting "I was stopped at the lights" there are pics there of a Vanderlinde exhaust

I have no idea which aftermarket end can you have there, it doesn't look like the laser that I had, and the only other laser was a 2 into 2 system as far as I'm aware. But The std cans are good enough TBH, unless you fit a full replacement exhaust system, non of the other replacement end cans actually offer much of an improvement over the std, you may get a slightly better exhaust tone and maybe shed a little weight, but overall, probably not worth the cost. Go for a Y-piece, and a free flowing air filter such as a SHJ or the blue peter special copy (val singleton. do a search) and a lennies induct and that's about as good as it gets without spending another bikes worth of dosh on it.

Hi all,

Here's a few extra photos - of the exhausts from all angles, including the 'not for road use' stamp which has been suggested would make them Vanderlinde pipes!

For bonus points, what on earth is the connector on the handlebar clamp for? I'm guessing sat-nav, but I have never seen that odd four-prong connector before! It's not TomTom and it doesn't look like the recent Garmin items...

Ahh! Thanks DaveH.

I'll remove it then. That'll be fun, because getting to the battery is both easy and quick! /sarcasm

But it does.
It just leaves 18 of them in the stables as spares for when the first 2 run away :)

Hi all!

Bit of a time delay, but now it's getting sunny I'd love to get these pipes in use.

Any idea if they are 100% Vanderlinde and, if so, where I get a link pipe from?

Thanks!
