Actually, a bit of a developments on that.
It's a long story, but I found it had been VERY badly fitted.
The silencer was hanging off the ends of the retaining pins, meaning the whole lot was too far back.
The tightening slits on the link pipe therefore, were not down far enough on the secondary link pipe, meaning they were out in the open, so to speak.
Effectively the exhaust was blowing.
I took it all off and re-fitted it as it should have been, and it's running better.
It's a bit quieter and whilst it still gurgles a bit on the overrun, the popping and banging has gone.
Very happy now.
