My 1100s Sport had the wider rear tyre, but the easy one to spot was that the longer rear shock on the sport has a yellow spring.tapper54 wrote:Hi Tanneman, What is a Sport Version ? How can you tell ? mine is a 2003 is that one.tanneman wrote:Welcome to the forum.
The later R1100S models were produced in the sport spec didn't have a centre stand like mine. I believe that the earlier models had the sport pack fitted as an optional extra. These did have a centre stand. What the difference is in centre stands I don't know. Some of the more wiser members on here can steer you in the right direction.

We don't stop playing because we get old.....we get old because we stop playing!
Re: What's a Sport Version ?
But if it's a 2003 Sport it'll have a shorter rear shock than std.dave1100s wrote:

Hi guys, just a quick update, as far as I can tell from realoem the BRC ans sports soch is SHORTER at 365mm instead of 385mm for the standard.
As for the stand, the F650 GS has a satnd that fits better than any other BMW I have tried. I'll take some pictures as I'm doing it and learn how to post them if people are interested. It should lift the rear wheel off the floor like a normal stand when its done. So far I have put it in the press just the cloe the pivot points slightly, they need to be about 4mm closer so nothing really, just to get them to Fit nicely. Then cut the stops off one side and cut down the stop on the foot rest arm side (lhs of bike). Next I'm heating the other side and bending it around 180 degrees, this will make the other stop. I'll need to cut this down to the correct height once its in the correct place. Finally I will weld on a fixing bar for the springs to mount on and put in the standard spring mount in the frame. It sounds like a lot of complicated work but its not and won't take too long I hope. I will keep you posted if anyone is interested.
I'm really doing all this because my drive is a pain and I often worry about it falling especially if the engine is running, its a bit petty but it would be nice to be able to just leave it, shut the garage then get on and go, I'm hoping this will mean the bike sits nicely and safely.
Cheers.

tell me about it, I've spent 2 days partially digging my drive to get to my car. It's 3 foot deep and quite compacted so was a solid nightmare.
Huge blisters later I managed to get to the boot and dig a channel to the drivers door squeezed in to find the battery had gone flat (I rarely use the car as the little F650 does all weather commuting (but is trapped behind 5 foot drifts)) .... so back to the boot, remove battery, charge overnight.
Next day ... refit battery, start car and ease out onto the cleared part of the drive ... woooo hoooo freedom. There's now a 3 foot high walled 330 BM size hole in the snow
it even has the BMW kidney grill imprinted in the snow!

I was suprised to see how much distruption is still in place on the main road during my commute to work. The A525 through Coedpoeth is still pretty much single track with huge piles of snow and abandoned cars taking up the extra space.
Given current temperatures I reckon these mounds of ploughed snow will take weeks to melt so the councils need to be physically moving them, oh and of course with the spring rains to add to the meltwater I suspect we're going to have floods again
