Hello from East Lothian

Postby Lindsay » Tue Feb 05, 2013 8:44 pm

Just joined, I have a 2002 R1100S with 42k miles, running really well, shod with Bridgestone 023 sport touring tyres very impressive grip. I was looking for info on oil spec and usage, all details were there. V pleased. Thanks and I plan to use the forums loads. PS I'm leaving next week and off to France, Italy, Spain, Gib, Portugal then home, will be wearing my thermals! Was reading with interest the discussion re travelling from Scotland to Europe thanks for the hints and tips.

Welcome to the forum. I thought about getting the 023 for the 11S after the PR2's has worn out, only thing is it takes ages to wear. PR2 is a good road tyre but I found it slow to steer on the track. Well, if the 023 is good enough for Ron Haslam then why not. Don't forget to put up a ride report. We're planning to go to Northern Spain and Portugal in late summer. A few pointers would be great.

Welcome aboard............. :thumbright:

That's a big trip you have planned!

Been said before, but make sure you have your EU health card, Bike breakdown cover, and most importantly - Travel insurance.

Post Office or M&S would be my recommendations (M&S for their better policy booklet) - as they cover motorcycle use.

Have fun

Thank you all for the kind welcome. Blackal thanks also for the travel Insurance and document tips. Particularly the m/c cover clause.
'Tis indeed a long way but we plan to take around 20 days, stopping off in Paris and near to Malaga for a couple of days r&r.
Tanneman I will take notes and hopefully find some good roads and places, will let you all know.
Ah yes McBoxer, the sheep near here run at the very mention of Velcro!!

We have just booked travel insurance with Rock travel insurance as they include bikes up to 1500 cc, a lot of insurers charge more if you want go above 125cc, may be different if you are on your own bike but we are hiring a 600 in Northern Thailand next week and it was cheaper to have a years policy with Rock than pay the excess for a bigger bike with our existing policy.
