'Long Way Round' on DVD

Post by Gromit »

Just got my copy of this a couple of days ago and just finished watching it.

At first, being a cynical so'n'so, I was under the impression it'd be a couple of softie luvvies who would be scared of getting their precious feet even slightly wet.

I was wrong.

The 7 or so hours of film footage must be one of the most enjoyable things I've watched in years and left me with nothing but huge respect for the guys doing the trip. Ok...they had plenty of back-up but it's still a fantastic achievement.

Highly recommended :)

With a bit of luck Santa will be delivering me a copy of this together with the book :D

Watched the series on Sky and thought it was great... armchair world traveller me

YOU TOO can do the trip... a snip at £14000

Nick Sanders does round the world challenges... only problem is it takes 60 days.... which is gonna be:
1: Bloody hard to get the time from work
2: Very expensive.
3: VERY hard work.

I crashed this yr on the europe challenge, but one of the guys with us had just completed the world challenge.

Think I'll stick with the DVD for now hehe

Grom,

Any footage on the DVD that wasn't shown on Sky? I've recorded all the Sky episodes but would prefer a singe DVD if there was half an excude to get it.

Rob - in answer to your q; dunno mate, only managed to catch a couple of the Sky episodes. :(

The DVD has almost 7 hours of coverage on 2 discs.

I ordered 2 copies from Duke: 'We don't have them in stock but hopefully will just before Christmas'. I then ordered the same from play.com (as they had them in stock) intending to cancel the Duke order a day or so later - Duke's DVD's turn up 48 hrs after ordering

Anyway, I've 2 spare copies which I'll flog on for a tenner each - both are still sealed in their Play.com packaging.

PM me if you're interested.

It is an extrordanarily good series; loved every minute of it, and the lads are great characters.

Todays paper suggested that Charlie will be looking at next years Paris-Dakar rally raid, anyone give me odds how many days he would last without the backup team ?

How many days?.....

Mind you, after seeing the long way round, respect to them both regardless of whether they had backup of not. Paris Dakar though, justa bit different!

Got the 'SE' version of LWR a couple of weeks ago - definitely worth getting, even if you have the original. :)

Ricardo,

What do you get on the SE eddition that you don't get on the "cooking" DVD? How many copies did you buy this time

Paul
You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

Paul - there are, apparently, 3 extra episodes' worth of footage. There's loads more about the Canada/USA bit and a fair bit more on the prep side of the trip. Put it this way, there were more than a few 'hang on...this bit's new' moments when I forced Ann to watch (some of) it the other night. She was very appreciative of my wealth of knowledge, as usual, and hung onto every word.... ;)
