Chinese Y piece ?

Postby monty » Tue Oct 02, 2012 2:21 pm

Has anyone fitted or had experience of the ebay advertised stainless steel Y piece from China, compared to the price of other systems it looks good value for money, but is it any good, does it fit and does it work, does it sound to good to be true, does it make things louder ? having got used to Laverdas and old Brit iron I feel I need some volume, at least it suggests that you can retain the original silencers.

Works fine not as highly polished as some but fit's well magnet test shows it's good stainless some slight black pin marks showing on mine but nothing to worry about, as with others a shim made from a coke can is required .

Big bonus is you can get to the shoc with it fitted unlike some more expensive ones

Get new screws and gaskits from motoworks before so you have them ready to go on

Remove centre stand or make stand stops do not let stand rest on torque arm I made stand stops by drilling the cat mount point and fitting a six mm bolt with two nuts and washers so it's adjustable

Go for it worth every penny

Nearly forgot it sounds nice as well Dai

Edit just looked at my own pics it's three nuts and three washers top nut a nylok

You forgot to remind him Dai, that if he buys gaskets and screws for the headers as well, that little lot will cost him more than the y-piece :D (well almost).

Don't listen to him i think it was about a tenner [nice stainless too] all you need is the gaskets and screws for the cat box cos at least one screw will snap as you undo them or you will have to dremmel one out and you wern't thinking of fitting it without new gasket's were you??????????

If you attempt to remove the header bolts from the head at least one will snap each side

Dave i'm suprised at you trying to put the poor fella off Dai

Around 50 quid delivered, for a few gaskets and small bolts. That can come as quite a shock to a Yorkshireman like me, and that's without the header studs and nuts. Just thought it was worth letting him know :D :D

About to do this myself.

Any tips on the best, least likely to break a bolt, method of removing the original Cat box? Do I do it after a run when everything is warm or cold following liberal coats of penetrating fluid?

I assume that removal of the lambda probe on an original installation can also be a bit of a pain?

Any photos of the centre stand stop mount so that at least I have an idea of what to 'bodge' up?

Ta in advance

If you look at page two of Dai's ride in boxerpics you can just make out the stand stops i used walking stick rubber ferruls[spelin] over the bolts to tidy things up and to give me a bit of give when the stand touches down

Edit sorry i nearly forgot hot or cold try both, but be carefull when working with a hot engine, lots of duck oil or simular for a few days beforehand

Edit again Lambda sensor if it's stuck fast it's probably goosed anyway Mine came out easily but the bike ran like a crock of sh1t with it fitted and yellow CCP box not fitted it's all in the Dai's ride post i won't go through it all again here
at present i am running a wide band universal lambda sensor and no CCP
Last fuel up was 110 miles £14.50 super unleaded this i am very happy with

Hope this helps Dai

Well it all sounds promising, as I do got a load of nuts and bolts anyway its just the gaskets I'll be after, its not just Yorkshire men who squirm when the hand has to reach for the wallet, us southern softies are also afflicted with short arms and deep pockets.

I'm thinking of ordering one of these myself, how did you lot get on with them and what were the costs in the end after import duty ?
Any tips if you did do the job ?
