Fear of Falling, The Epilogue.
It was tyres.
Fitted a set of Conti Attack2 and all my problems went away.
Tips in easily and tracks true. No longer necessary to have two strong men prise my fingers off the handlebars.
I have gone back to 33/38 pressures, which is near factory recommendation. Jury still out on that, but feels good and of course less thumping over bumps.
Thanks to all who contributed.
I will still have to consider shocker refurbishment (can't afford Ohlins) but right now I am a happy little Vegemite.
Thanks guys.

Shocs well all i can say is i have a Nitron on the back it works far better than the knackerd original [almost no chicken strips at the back, not bad with a leaking front] but i have lost a bit of ground clearance then again the length is adjustable and i haven't adjusted it yet
i have a hagon coming for the front and have been waiting for over five weeks [hope it will be worth the wait]
both Nitron and hagon are made in the up by men with flat caps [apparently] and are made to the spec you supply riding style, weight of rider, how much luggage carried, pillion, etc
Not the best shocs in the world but by no means the worst i went for the basic shocs as i tend to fiddle with things! with more than two things to play with at each end i could get it seriously wrong
Also price came into play £360 for the rear and £300 for the front i felt was money well spent i could have saved myself a few quid and gone for a hagon rear but felt like trying something else after having had hagon on the back of other bikes in the past
My bike may be a rat but it's a keeper Dai

Re: Fear of Falling, The Epilogue.
Why the factory recommendation? Road Attack 2's were'nt out when the 11 was available so the pressures aren't really relevant, I'd use the tyre manufacturers recommendations if I were you, makes the steering MUCH lighterHorizontally opposed wrote:It was tyres.

Conti recommend Fr 2.5 bar and Rr 2.9 bar (solo and two up as appears to be the norm for all modern tyres)
http://www.conti-bike.co.uk/bikemodels. ... bikeid=681
They also recommend a C grade Attack2 for the Fr

Fear of falling less
Thanks for the link on Conti pressures. Never thought to check.
I never take a pillion, so hoped a lower and softer pressure would be okay, but I will pump them back up to make sure no overheating problems.
Never heard of Conti Attack2 C until you mentioned it. Too late now.
Ah well. We live and (sometimes) learn.
Shock rebuilding locally no problems. Thanks for try.
Tempted to try the ultimate posers shocks someday. Penske.
Lot of research needed.
Cheers guys.

Fear of falling past
Not on your sweet bippy I don't.
http://www.hardracing.com/shocks%20&%20 ... Penske.htm
Penske pretty much dominates US racing (I know, I know) but I just love having something no one else has. The pose value is huge. (probably so is the price.)
Ohlins are just so yesterday. ('')
The Web blurb suggests I could give them a spec and they would do it, and the tech. quality should be the best.

In all honesty i can say the showa shocs fitted by BMW are not that bad, if my front hadn't gone pop i would have been happy enough with them[the rear had gone soft but the damping seemed good] but i decided there would be no point fitting a new front without doing the rear, also the bike would be off the road while i was having the showa's rebuilt [yup i know my front is still leaking but at least i can still use the bike]
i try not to fix what ain't broke but when things do break i tend to upgrade a bit!
In your position if your happy enough with the standard shoc's but want to upgrade go for a mid price aftermarket pair they will feel a bit better [not much] they will look much better the money you save could then be spent on rocket sprockets $220 aud and a throttle body overhaul $120 usd [check my sig]
You can spend a lot of cash on these bikes and make them worse for road use mid range and handling is where they shine

agreed Dai, I'm more than happy with the BCR's suspension. The ESA WP setup on the K12GT is good too, and being fair the little Funduro whizzes around corners far better than its "adventure" tyres should allow
My R80RS well ... that's definately a challenge but then it's from an age when BMW's answer to suspension was to equip all with the springs from a biro and oil from a palm tree
