The bike sounds like it could have belonged to Vibor Paravic. He used to live in Aberdeen and now lives in London. He radically modified an 1100S in the style you describe. It then caught fire on the road in London earlier this year causing traffic chaos! I know he posted pictures of the fire on Fac...

My R1200ST had this fault and was picked up when it was in for service on 21 April. Finally got it back early July due to worldwide shortage of these flanges. Fortunately I had another bike to ride.

I have a Triton that I have owned since 1978. When you ride it after modern bikes it is a good laugh on country roads. On a dual carriageway it is painful in more weays than one!

If its an R1100S you can fit the narrow City Lids to the panniers. This slims them down to less width than the cylinder heads but of course reduces the capacity. I have this on my R1100RS which uses the same panniers.

I have an R1100RS and its on its third PC680 which is a bit bigger. They seem to last about 5 years before expiring. I normally left it on a BMW trickle charger over the winter. This year when speaking to Motorworks they said that when laying up for the winter to charge fully before lay-up but dont ...

I picked up an Akrapovic titanium end can on ebay in excellent condition for half new price. Not fitted it yet so dont know what it sounds like but will do so before the bike goes back on the road.

You have made a good choice in getting an R1200ST. My 2007 non-servo model has greatly impressed me in the 800 miles that I had a chance to ride it before the Scottish winter set in.

I did this mod to my R1100RS some years back and can get an extra 2 litres in which with the tank brimmed means an extra 20 miles range. As has been said above you need to be careful if filling then going for a cuppa or you may come back to a puddle under the bike as the fuel expands.
