Not tech as such - I'm torn between a Roof Diversion and a BMW Sportintegral. I understand that they both claim to be (one of) the qiuetest helmets around, but I/m after some horse talk.... Ian

The Roof is a nice helmet and quiet BUT and I'm sure others will agree it tends to fall apart around you!! Can't say to know much about the Sport Integral but the feedback I've had is good.

The Sport Integrale is a quality piece of kit. Its a tight fit but gives quite a bit when its been worn for a couple of weeks. The quality of the Roof does not cut the mustard (bits drop off) I cannot hear the engine on my bike with the BM helmet but after 70 there is some wind noise. Vents very easy to operate with a gloved hand. Highly delighted with mine

If its quiet you want then try the Schuberth either the new full face or the very new Concept 2, If you have the correct head shape for a Schuberth, then brilliant quality and very very quiet, does not come cheap though. The concept 2 has a built in pop down half visor like a jet pilot helmet. Schumachers helmet is built by Schuberth.

I've had a Sportintergral for about a year now and I'm very pleased with it. It's very well made but I still find I need a decent pair of earplugs to make the wind noise bearable . I can't compare it with anything else currently available as it was a replacement for a ten year old Arai.
I was in "infinity " at Twickenham recently and according to the salesman
BMW helmets are made by Schuberth. I had a good look at those on display and the internal padding and venting is very similar to the BMW badged lids .

My money's going on a sport integral (silver or blue?). Got an HJC which is nice, but noisy. Tried the Sport integral, which was great, if a bit warm and tight. Hopefully will losen up. You can get dark visors from Germany. Never tried the Roof.

My last couple of helmets have been Shoei - now I won't use anything else. They're reasonably quiet and superbly made - better than an Arai IMHO. The one I have now is almost 5 years old and has covered more miles on me barnet than I care to mention. Nothing's ever fallen off it and it's still as comfy to wear all day as it was when it was new. Even the visor mechanism is still tight enough to hold the visor up (or down) at illegal speeds! Alas, I'm due a new one soon as I'll retire this one when it gets to it's 5th birthday.

BTW Bobbit, I have been told the same thing about Schuberth making BeeEm helmets. There are a lot of simlarities.

You are one of those very rare people who replace things when they are worn out. If everyone did that (or even a slight majority did that) then the capitalist world would collapse overnight. Most of us replace things when;

1. we get bored of them
2. we lose them temporarily
3. our mates get a better one
4. a magazine tells us we need one
5. we think our wives won't notice (ie we get the same colour)
6. we haven't bought one for a while

You will notice that actually needing something doesn't feature anywhere on this list. So, through my frivoluos, wastful and credit fueled spending I am actually helping support the economy. You on the other hand, only buying something when you need it, and then keeping it for it's natural life, are not helping grow the economy. You have to try harder.

What I omitted to say tho' is that I've bought a few helmets during the life of my Shoei(s)....I just don't wear 'em. They were bought on a whim mostly but I just prefer my old Shoei. Languishing somewhere about my garage are, an Axo, FM, Nolan and some other cheap load of shite!

I had a Roof Diversion - retired it following a drop - although I read somewhere that Rood lids did exceptionally well on the protection stakes.

Good quiet lid for the money if you don't mind the chocolate finish and vents that fall off.

Visor is good for demisting, nearly impossible to remove.

Have switched to Arai and have not looked back (despite excessive wind roar!)

Good to see a bit of banter about helmets. I too have just retired my Shoei, at 7yrs old. I've now got an XR900, but always like to have one spare. I think I'm going to plump for the BMW one. I'm pleased to see that I'm not the only Imelda Marcos of the helmet world. I've got an 'as new' Vemar which is way too noisy (loads of vents and a lairy colour scheme!) but which seemed a good adea at the time....
My worry is that I remember people raving about the BMW System 4, but I thought it was crap, noisy and far to fussy. Incidentally, Schuberth do make the helmets for BMW [/b]

Shoei XR1000 is a good no nonsense helmet very light and reasonably priced in plain colours. Vents work which is a plus. I always wear ear plugs so noise is never an issue. Just my 2peneth.

Having reached the ripe old age of erm .........Well a ripe old age and having got meself a nice dose of tinnitus I would recommend anyone to wear earplugs every time they go out on their bike. My ears are now well and trully buggered thanks in part to riding bikes when I was younger with no helmet on let alone earplugs! Mainly tho' as result of playing in loud rock bands for years.....we pay the price of our youthful folly
