How do you remove the final drive? PLEASE HELP

I have just tried to take the final drive unit off having removed all the bolts etc but the final drive unit will not come out. Is it a case of whack with rubber mallet until out or is there something I have missed?

Any help would be greatfully appreciated as BMW have quoted £200 for job (bearings £30)!!!!!

Seems as though the splines might be stuck ( see _IT_ comment below)
any help again would be appreciated.

unscrew the gaiter clamps and release the gaiter, then undo the locknut and release the two pivot bolts (both have allen key holes) take them right out and the final drive will drop on the floor.. well you have to pull it off the drive shaft but should be dead easy.. unless the drive shaft splines are stuck!! oo err..

Sounds like you are looking to replace the 'Paralever bearing' if so do a search and you should find most of what you need to know.
