Chris, I have to get to croydon quite often cos its where my driver wallah lives.
I go as follows and its usually better than right round the M25:

leave M25 at J13
follow A308 past Kempton Park and then Hampton Court Palace
right onto A309 hampton Court Way
then A3 for 1 junction.
right onto A240 Kingston rd
onto A24 going south, (Ewell Bypass) for 1 junction
then left onto A232 Cheam Rd (becomes Croydon Rd)
crosses A23 at Purley way.

sounds complicated but it works ok.
stop at Paul or Steve W for a cuppa on the way past.

Don't do the A23. Lots of traffic lights and very slow. Police are also having a blitz around Coulsden currently. For saafety ourposes only of course. A23 is a hopeless commuter route.

M4 is fine and will take you smoothly straight into London on a bike.

Tell 'em to get someone else to do it then - thought you were the boss of yourself
