New bike ,too me

Post by ned1 »

Hi all,
just got a 1100R 03, Saturday, which I am thinking about removing the cat with a Y pipe but would like it to sound a bit louder and still be ok for the MOT.
will replacing the cat make it any louder !! if not can anyone recommend any pipes that would fit the bill.
also what will chipping it do.
Thanks
Ned

Best mod you can do to the Boxer. It does give a more throaty growl without being excessive, replacing the Cans with either Lazer or Remus is the next step, road legal or race are available, I went for the Race Cans myself, bloody makes a wonderful howl, dont know how Im going to get on come MOT time, will have to wait and see.

Chipping can help smooth things out a little, dont expect big gains, everything does a little bit, but all together make a bigger difference.

Although my bike is chipped I wouldnt bother fitting one myself and would more than likely go for a Power Commander instead.

Best thing you can do to the Boxer in my opinion is keep the Throttle Bodies in balance and do the Valve Clearances and Rocker End float, you wouldnt believe the difference these basic servicing items can do when done well, even dealers dont always get them spot on as its a bit time consuming.

Thanks timebox
can I fit a Y pipe now then later on add cans and if wanted the power Commander at a later date to spread the cost etc or will it have to be done all at the same time.
thanks

Got the lasers on mine with the removeable baffles. Passes the mot with an advisory no prob. Sounds nice too.
Congrats on the new purchase................Enjoy
All problems can be fixed with the correct application of a big enough hammer.

not a prob as long as you dont want the 2 to 2 system as the Y pipe is different and wont fit the Original cans, I would go for Remus, then you can choose a Race or Road can later on, as long as you tell the supplier you want the Y piece to fit the OE cans you shouldnt have a problem.

Best thing you can do is post some pics of your setup, the number plate carrier is normally bolted to a plate on the cans with 3 screws.

The only thing that is worth getting is some new bolts for where the downpipes bolt to the cat box as they normally need the heads cutting off, not a prob as the other end of the bolt is in the CAT which you are getting shot of. There are 2 gaskets there, 1 each side, but you can normally reuse.

Thanks for that Timebox2,
Now I have a idea what is involved in refitting the pipe where the cat is, which is what I was going to do first and then replace the cans at a later date, I was also looking at replacing the rubber hoses on servo/ABS braking system with goodridge brake hoses.
good idea yes/no
