Starter Motor Cover Aggro

Post by POB »

A few weeks ago I had the misfortune of having to jump-start my bike. I removed the plastic cover from the starter motor to find a decent supply to attach jump-leads to.

It took me ages, and I shredded my hand.

What tools are best for this? The bend is too much for a flexi driver or a universal joint, and I haven't been able to find anything long enough to fit through the gap in the frame (to the rear).

I am despairing, and seriously thinking about getting Bemer Biikes to refit it when I take the bike for a service. Any tips?

Ive got a crappy 1/4 inch screwdriver / allenkey / torx set from halfords which has a really small ratchet with it that fits nicely in the slot as the allenkeys are about and inch long and the ratchet is only 1/2" thick.

you can usually reach it from the rear with about a foot of 1/4" drive extensions joined end to end. Then go to halfords and buy a red battery lead - join one end to the battery and leave the other end somewhere convenient, like under the seat.
'Hinterachsge' translates as 'rear axle'.(Not 'Differential', so f*** off)
