Thinking about R1100 S

Post by ned1 »

would like to hear any comments from owners -all the silly things people would like to ask like, can the seat height be lowered and if so how, what's it like to live with, do they vibrate, what problems are there, popular mods etc.
As for me , Ive been riding for a long time off and on with a gap of about 10 years , have had a K100RS (tall bike), my prescent bike for about 15 years (FJ 1200) which has had inprovments made to it over time.

I don't think you can lower the seat without removing the meagre padding the seat height is fairly low in any case. If you have had a K and and FJR I think you'll find the seat lower on the R1100S.

I have had mine since the end of January08 and clocked up 2.5k miles and still enjoy the fact that it does not nose dive under braking and stays level when accelerating through the gears.

My little finger (throttle side) suffers from vibes after about 45 minutes of high speed, however I also suffered on my old Divvy 900 so suspect it's me not the bike.

Just trawl through Boxerspex pages to see popular mods, mostly seem to be around replacing the cat with Remus Y piece. I am sure some of the longer standing guys will help out with more (helpful) comments.
There would appear to be a surfeit of prolixity and sesquipedalian content today please do not use a big word when a singularly un-loquacious and diminutive linguistic expression will satisfactorily accomplish the contemporary necessity

that's the way to go, do you have a meet night at the ace :?: , I could then have a chat and a good look at the bikes.
Thanks

Hi Ned ... just hang around here a while and you will be convinced.

Seat/ride height can be lowered with all sorts of torque arm/shock length jiggerypokery - living with it, I ride mine every day, drinks oil and eats rear pads (in town), bearings, heated grips (left and now right!) - vibes, yes, oh yes - problems on mine are front brakes seizing (give them a strip) and fork paint is rubbish - mods, dump the Cat and get a Y-piece, etc.

Give yourself time to get used to it ... took me a good few months now it all makes sense - apart from I still indicate left when I try to use the horn!

Nice one.
