Oil "Overflow" ?????

Got back from the desert on Thursday night and hot-tailed in down to local garage to collect bike on Friday morning. Sun shinning, birds singing, all was happiness and light.

Bike had been in for Service, MOT, new battery, wider rear wheel fitted and have the Power socket checked, (hence flat battery although hooked up to Ultimate recently aquired via the site).

Bike looked good, bill wasnt too horrible. Off home I goes.

Leathers on, tank full to the brim and off I heads for the first blast of the year. :D

Great feel with the wider wheel and I took my usual route up to Braemar via Alford.

Gets to Braemar, steps off the bike and to my horror I see a film of oil all over the right side of the bike from the belly ban all the way back to, and covering, the rear wheel!

There is a small black rubber pipe that hangs / points downwards just behind the right side foot rest. The end of that pipe was wet with oil and it looks as if that was where it came from.

Now the silly question:- what is that pipe and what do you all think is happening??????? :?

Mine has 3 pipes around there, one is the battery overflow.. one is the petrol tank overflow and the other one ive no idea ! if you overfilled with petrol then it might have been the petrol overflow clearing a load of crap out of the pipe.. I put my new battery in with a full tank and when I tipped the tank up it pissed petrol all over the swing arm and a load of black bits which I assume were from inside the pipe.

Hi Leasky,

As IT says, one hose is for the battery, one for the petrol tank over flow and the other is the petrol tank breather hose.

Iv'e had petrol leak out from time to time. Was it a lot of oil?

Hi Cobbster, the amount that came out gave the whole side of the bike a slight covering.

I said it was oil but after reading the Posts, it may just be a small amount of petrol plus dirt and general shite from inside the pipe.

The thing is that I didnt fill the tank any further then I normally do and I didnt do anything else out of the ordinary during the ride other then perhaps tackle some of the corners with a bit more lean then normal due to the wider rear wheel.

That wouldnt cause the petrol to come pishing out that pipe would it? :?

Hi Leasky,
The overflow pipe may have been blocked for some time with crap building up behind it. My overflow was blocked and only cleared when I poked it with a bit wire and 'wobbly dog'. Seems as though thier prone to this because of their location, ie, on top of the filler neck. The breather is internal with a funny placky thing stuck to it so it stays in a clean environment.

Hope this helps, cobbster.
