I'm thinking of buying an R1100S - probably an 01 - 03 model but having spent some time reading through various comments on this forum I'm a bit concerned about two things: vibration & TB balancing. I have run older boxer twins in the past (carbed models) and seemed to spend more time than I would have liked keeping them running sweetly, although they did not vibrate unduly. Is the 1100 a bike which needs lots of fettling ? Is the vibration intrusive ?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hi Mate,
I only joined the Boxer club last year when I bought my S, that was July and I have now put 16000 miles on her.
I do all my own servicing and although I check the balancing quite frequently I havent had to play with it much since I first set her up last year.
Personally I do not find the vibes at all intrusive, not negatively so anyway and I regularly do 5-6 hour days in the saddle.
I know its a very personal thing but the S is without doubt the comfiest bike I have owned to date for allround riding.

Hi,
The S can buzz a bit but not in an intrusive way. If it gets too bad then something is wrong. Recently I had a problem with vibrations which I thought was down to bad TB balancing, turns out it was a coil cap gone off on my twin spark. New coilcaps and all is sweet. This is a big bore twin and when things go off a bit it tells you so a fix is usually easy. Buy one and give it time and you'll learn to love it.

Hi,
I bought mine in Feb this year with 7000 Km on the clock I now have just over 10000Km (not had much free time recently
) and I love it more and more every time I ride. I had a Ducati before and that rattles and shakes and is a sod in town. The R1100S makes the ducati feel like a tractor!!
I am looking forward to my hols in the Harz mountains in Germany this August, that will be a real test for the bike.
Super bike, buy it you won´t regret it.
Apart from the fact it has no "sound"
Un saludo

After many bikes from sports to tourers i read that the Honda vfr was the best ever so i bought one. What a disapointment it turned out to be. Then by pure fluke I bought a bmw r1100s and wow what a bike. About the only negative thing I can say is the vibration but just bludy ignore it and enjoy a great bike you will not regret buying one
